2. The Oregonian Tragedy – 1 hour before the incident
Ch.6 – Counting our men
As time passed since the date humans and aliens met, relations of the US government and the IGP's administration became worse over time. Even with the APL's destruction, the US government had reconsidered if the aliens were worth it after all. With terrorist skirmishes against civilians, aliens making more messes with their remains of tent cities and the refugees managing to escape and go deep into the US.
The populace also had an enormous influence on the US government. They didn't like the EACT, and the Aliens are suspected to be sharing information with them. A survey that most of the US population answered revealed that 70% wanted Solaris to be gone. Even without the survey's results, protests in alien cities and in human ones showed that the majority hated the aliens.
By early 2036, the US did its first reduction of Solaris territory, by only limiting it to just Oregon. When the end of the year came, the territory only extended to Lincoln City, down to Florence. By mid 2037, the territory went from Depoe Bay, down to Bayshore, and extended inland only as far to Hoskins, a small community.
Alien cities that were no longer part of Solaris were now on their own and had to join the US for their much-needed supplies. But this made interaction with humans and aliens, which made more tension, and some incidents popped up.
With the reduction of size, the forces of Solaris dwindled, with alien troops going back home while NATO or EACT troops got sent elsewhere. Now, the US had 1 division, the aliens only had a brigade's worth of troops, and EACT had three regiments.
Today is August 26th, 2037, and as Solaris reaches its 4th anniversary, Morado, along with his Sergeant, walked on the grass of Huey AFB, which was constructed near Eddyville. In the distance was a hill that had a helipad, and that spot was the two men's destination, where the rest of the squad was, which was covered in trees. The brutal Analopian civil war had ended just nine months before, and the refugees began to be sent back to their homeland, now under the control of an interim government.
With the last refugee transport getting out just a few days earlier, Solaris corps had fulfilled its purpose, and was ready to get all of its soldiers back home, right after they cleaned up the remaining military infrastructure and facilities. But cleaning up took time, and alien transports took time to arrive at the one and only spaceship drydock right near Newport.
"Good morning, pilot!" Sgt. Rigous walked to a US helicopter pilot, who ate some of her MRE.
"Hey!" the pilot waved. "Whatcha need?"
"Are supplies doing fine? Because I need them for the long way back home!"
"Oh, they are on time, as always!"
"Awesome." Sgt. Rigous smiled. "We're just waiting for a helicopter to arrive over there." The Sergeant pointed at the hill. "Our helicopter is gonna take... I don't know, a hundred seasons for it to come!"
"Sergeant Rigous." A voice said in the Rappis language.
"Oh, Lieutenant Unara, what's up, sir?" Sgt. Rigous said, looking at the Lieutenant.
"Looks like you'll be here for at least 40 more minutes." Lt. Unara said. "While you wait, I have another favor for you. There." The Lieutenant pointed at four boxes. "They are filled with letters to the Unrialo system. I need them transported to the special express spaceships."
