The darkness behind Y/n's eyelids was familiar.

Not sleep.

Not rest.

The muffled stillness of being sealed inside something.

Then—

???: "I better hurry up and find that uniform before someone spots me... Urgggh... This lid weighs a ton! Try this on for size! Mya-ha!"

Her eyes snapped open.

She didn't move.

The hunter listened.

Light footsteps.

Scraping stone.

A young voice.

Then—

FWOOSH!

Blue fire suddenly bloomed across the inside of the coffin.

Heat licked over the wood.

Smoke curled around her.

Y/n: "..."

Y/n stared at the flames for exactly one second.

Y/n: "...Really?"

She sighed.

Y/n: "Of course my first day starts with arson."

With one smooth motion, she planted both hands against the lid.

CRACK!

The coffin doors burst open.

She stepped out through the smoke as though someone had simply inconvenienced her morning.

Y/n: "..."

The room around her looked nothing like anywhere she'd ever seen.

Dozens of massive black coffins floated in the air at different heights, suspended by magic she could practically feel humming through the chamber.

Her hunter's instincts catalogued everything automatically.

No visible chains.

Levitation enchantment.

Ancient.

Powerful.

Unknown origin.

Interesting.

Then she noticed the culprit.

Standing near another coffin was...

"...A cat."

Well...

Mostly.

Grey fur.

A white patch over his chest.

Bright blue eyes.

Pink paw pads.

A tail shaped suspiciously like a pitchfork.

Blue flames danced from both ears without burning the fur beneath them.

Around his neck rested a torn black-and-white striped bow tie with a lavender gemstone.

Y/n blinked once.

"...Demonic."

She tilted her head.

"...Feline."

Another pause.

"...Admittedly adorable."

The creature puffed up immediately.

"OH-HO! You got a lotta nerve ignoring me, human! The name's Grim! Believe me, you won't forget it! Now gimme your uniform, and be quick about it! 'Cause if you don't...you're gonna regret it!"
