Stirrings of Jealousy

The morning started like any other. I was in my apartment getting ready for the day when I got a text from Kanami: "We're here!" I grabbed my bag and hurried outside, finding Kanami and Bakugou waiting for me in the car.

"Morning!" I greeted them, sliding into the passenger seat.

"Morning, Mari!" Kanami chirped. Bakugou just grunted his usual greeting, eyes focused outside the window.

As we drove towards Bakugou's high school, the usual banter between siblings filled the car.

"Don't forget your lunch this time, Kat," Kanami teased.

"Shut up, I won't," Bakugou huffed.

When we reached his school, Bakugou turned to me, his expression softening slightly. "Have a good day, Marinette."

"Thanks, you too," I replied with a smile.

Once Bakugou was out of the car, Kanami and I headed to our university. We chatted about classes, projects, and the latest gossip.

As we parked and headed to our first class, something was different. A new student stood by the entrance, looking slightly lost. He was tall, with a warm smile and kind eyes that immediately caught my attention.

"Who's that?" I whispered to Kanami.

"No idea, but he's cute," she replied, winking.

We walked past him, and he looked up, giving us a friendly nod. Throughout the day, I couldn't help but notice how he interacted with everyone. He was super kind, friendly, and charming. His name, as I later learned, was Hiroshi Yamamoto.

During lunch, Hiroshi approached our table. "Mind if I join you?" he asked.

"Not at all," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.

We spent the lunch break talking and laughing. Hiroshi was easy to talk to, and I found myself drawn to his genuine nature. As the day ended, we exchanged numbers, and I felt a flutter of excitement.

On the drive home, I was on the phone with Hiroshi, talking about everything and nothing. Kanami made teasing comments, but I didn't mind. I was too absorbed in my conversation with Hiroshi.

"Wow, Mari, you're really smitten, huh?" Kanami teased, glancing at me.

"Shut up," I muttered, blushing.

When we reached Kanami's house, I stepped out of the car, still talking to Hiroshi. "I'll talk to you later, Hiroshi. Bye!" I said sweetly, hanging up.

"Bye, Marinette," he replied, and I couldn't help but smile.

As I walked into the house, Bakugou was already home, lounging on the couch. He looked up as I entered.

"Who were you talking to?" he asked, his tone a mix of curiosity and something else I couldn't quite place.

"Just a new friend from university," I replied, trying to sound casual.

Bakugou's eyes narrowed slightly. "New friend, huh?"

Kanami, who had followed me inside, smirked. "Yeah, a really cute and sweet new friend."

"Shut up, Kanami," I said, rolling my eyes.

Bakugou didn't say anything else, but I could feel his eyes on me as I went upstairs. There was a tension in the air that I couldn't quite understand.

As I settled into my room, my phone buzzed with a new message from Hiroshi. I smiled, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. Little did I know, this new friendship would stir up unexpected emotions, not just in me, but in Bakugou as well.

Bakugou's POV:

It had been a few days since that mall incident with Marinette, and the memory of her sweet voice and laughter had been haunting me. I couldn't get her out of my mind, and it was driving me nuts. Today, I was especially curious about her new friend she had mentioned. Was it a girl... or a boy?

As I sat on the couch, lost in thought, Kanami sauntered in with a smirk plastered on her face.

"So?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"What?" I snapped, already annoyed by her knowing look.

"Jealous yet?" she teased.

"What the fuck? No! Why should I be?" I retorted, trying to keep my voice steady.

"Because her new friend is a guy," she smirked, and I felt my heart freeze for a moment.

"Shut up, I don't care who she's friends with," I muttered, turning on my heel and marching upstairs.

As I walked down the hallway towards my room, I heard laughter coming from Kanami's room. I recognized Marinette's giggle and felt a pang of jealousy. I crept closer and put my ear against the door to listen.

"Yeah, Hiroshi, that's so funny!" Marinette's voice was bright and cheerful.

Hiroshi. So that was the name of the guy who had caught Marinette's attention. I clenched my fists, trying to control the surge of jealousy.

"You have such a lovely laugh, Marinette," Hiroshi said, his voice smooth and warm. "I'm really glad we met."

"Me too, Hiroshi. You're so kind and easy to talk to," Marinette replied, and I could practically hear the smile in her voice.

I could imagine her smiling that beautiful smile of hers, and it made my blood boil. What the hell was wrong with me?

"I was wondering," Hiroshi continued, "would you like to grab a coffee after class tomorrow? There's this great little café I know."

"That sounds wonderful, Hiroshi," Marinette said, her voice filled with excitement.

I had heard enough. I stormed away from the door, my heart pounding in my chest. Why did it bother me so much that she was talking to this guy? Why did it feel like she was slipping away from me?

I reached my room and slammed the door shut behind me. My mind was racing. I didn't want to admit it, but Kanami was right. I was jealous. Marinette was my friend, my... something more, and the thought of her being close to someone else made me feel like I was losing her.

Later that evening, I couldn't shake the thoughts of Marinette and Hiroshi. I kept replaying their conversation in my head, each word digging deeper into my mind. I knew I had to do something, but what? Confront her? No, that would make me look pathetic. Ignore it? I couldn't.

I decided to go downstairs and get some fresh air, hoping it would clear my mind. As I reached the bottom of the stairs, I saw Marinette in the living room, her phone in hand, a smile on her face.

"Hey, Bakugou," she greeted me, her eyes sparkling.

"Hey," I muttered, trying to act casual.

"Everything okay?" she asked, looking genuinely concerned.

"Yeah, just needed some air," I replied, avoiding her gaze.

She nodded, but I could see the question in her eyes. She wanted to know what was bothering me, but I wasn't ready to tell her. Not yet.

As I stepped outside, I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. I needed to figure out what I was going to do about this. Because one thing was clear: I wasn't going to lose Marinette to anyone. Not without a fight.
