Jungkook breathed out as soon as he stepped out of the bedroom, leaning heavily against the wall as if it were the only thing keeping him upright. "Damn Jungkook, you got some boldness," he muttered under his breath, a wry smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
"I have to be when the opposition is a tiger. We can't tame him with a stick, right?" he reasoned aloud, trying to bolster his confidence.
With a final, lingering glance at the partially closed bedroom door, where the tension still hung thick in the air, Jungkook straightened up and made his way to the kitchen, his footsteps echoing softly in the quiet house.
"Mama," Jungkook called softly as he approached her, in the kitchen.
"Jungkook," she responded, her gaze hesitant, searching his face for clues.
"Is that our breakfast?" he asked, lifting the lids of the various dishes spread out on the kitchen counter.
"Mm. I just made kimchi fried rice. We.. we can fry some fish to eat along with it," Mrs. Kim replied, her voice tentative.
"Okay. Do we have chicken?" he asked, walking over to the small refrigerator.
"Mm. Maybe a few pieces are left from yesterday," she said, continuing to stir the food.
"Okay. Let me make a hangover soup for him, then," Jungkook decided, gathering the ingredients he needed.
Mrs. Kim's hand paused mid-stir, and she turned around, disbelief etched on her face. "Jungkook?" she called, her tone filled with doubt.
"He is my husband, Mama," Jungkook said gently. "I don't know about others, but for me, my husband is my better half, my life, even though he hasn't reached his full potential yet. But we.. we have a lifetime. I am very patient," he continued with a serene smile, as he began cleaning the utensils, readying them to make the hangover soup.
Mrs. Kim watched him, her heart softening as she witnessed the quiet determination in her son in law's eyes, the depth of his commitment evident in every careful movement.
"Chu... chu... chu..." Jungkook looked up from the dish he was preparing and smiled at the sight of little Aira being carried into the kitchen by Taeri.
"Ha. Did my bun come to check on mama?" Jungkook asked in a playful, baby voice. Aira, recognizing his voice, threw her tiny hands up, making grabby motions toward him.
"Wait.. wait, bun. Mama's hands are dirty. I touched the chilly. Stay with your aunt for a little while," Jungkook said, continuing to add ingredients to the boiling soup.
"Haha. Seems like she doesn't need us anymore," Taeri chuckled, struggling to hold the thrashing baby.
Aira's little lips started wobbling, and she began to cry. "Oh, oh, okay. Let me wash my hands at least," Jungkook said, smiling. He quickly left the spoon in the pot and washed his hands thoroughly before reaching out for Aira. The moment his hands were clean, Aira eagerly jumped into his arms.
