LUNA

I picked up my coffee order and paid at the counter. The cashier flashed me a friendly smile before handing back my card.

I turned to leave but paused near the door, watching the snow softly fall outside.

Despite what happened last week with Alec, I feel more determined now to get closer to him and figure out why he's so adamant about pushing everyone, including me, away.

I understand that he's going through a rough phase in his life right now, but that should be a reason to be surrounded by the people he cares about so that we can help him through it.

Yet, he just wants to shut everyone out and be isolated. I don't see how that's going to work out better for him, so I'm not going to give up just yet.

I'll keep trying until he finally lets me in.

Releasing a small sigh, I finally reached for the door and opened it. I hurried to my car parked near the curb and quickly got inside.

I carefully placed our coffees in the passenger seat before starting the car and driving to Alec's place at the hill.

Granted, I was feeling a little nervous because of what happened the last time I saw him.

We didn't talk much after he told me to get lost, and I did, but only to find somewhere to stay in town before trying with him again.

After arriving at his place, I noticed he wasn't outside this time. I grabbed the coffees and stepped out of the car, looking around.

It snowed more at the hill than in town, and it was much colder, so I was glad that I was wearing something warm to keep out the cold.

I stepped up to the porch and glanced through the window. It was foggy, but I couldn't see any light or movement inside.

My heart dropped in disappointment, realizing that he was probably not home. Or worse, he had probably left and found another place since I knew where he stayed now.

I didn't want to consider that possibility, so I stopped thinking about it. I walked up to the door and knocked. After two minutes had passed, he still didn't answer.

So, I tried knocking again, a bit louder this time.

To my surprise, a light flickered on inside, and I heard loud footsteps approaching the door. I braced myself and waited. The door flung open, and there he was.

My breath hitched in my throat the minute we made eye contact. He immediately narrowed his eyes at me, making the small smile on my face drop.

"I thought I told you to fuck off?"

I swallowed the lump in my throat and stood straight, looking him in the eye.

"And I told you that I'm not going anywhere."

His glare intensified.

"Not until we work this out together," I continued.

He rolled his eyes and stepped back to close the door, but I stepped in to stop him before he did.
