8) Pilaces Starlight

"Do you see the taller skinny girl with red straight hair?" Edmund nods as we keep walking "She comes from en extremely prestigious family, and she wants out of here bad... rumor has it she tried to bed a farm boy so she would be forced to marry him." The duke looks confused which I can't help but find funny

"I don't understand why would she want to marry below her class?" I shrug "Her parents aren't the best to her so her own small rebellion is ruining their reputation...unfortunately the only way she can figure out how is by ruining hers as well."

It's a shame really I once was friends with her but she iced me out claimed she didn't wish to drag me down with her...the nicest girl you could ever meet.

I nod forward "that blonde with all her hair up and on the side of her head...that's Fiona she will marry just about anyone who has money...her goal is to be a trophy wife who relaxes all day in her huge estate with eight kids." He scoffs at the kid part and we keep walking

"Or over there the girl with braids and the green dress...she wants to marry up in the world so her younger sister won't need to worry about marriage." He hums but we keep moving forward

"If none of these woman are what you are looking for may I offer an alternative?" We stop as he turns looking down at me with a raised eyebrow "An alternative?" I nod before continuing

"Lisa the girl you were speaking to this morning...I know she's a maid and extremely below you but she was born here in the Air district, she has to be wedded soon and she obviously knows how to take care of a house!" He scans my face before speaking "You wish to offer up your maid for me to take as a wife before yourself?" I freeze not knowing how to respond

"I-I um I'm sorry Duke Borealis I'm sorry I wasn't aware you wanted me to offer myself...I'm flattered really but-" if I'm being completely honest I have no idea why I can't find any words "well I'm just-I mean-no offense but I do not wish to marry someone who lives so far I couldn't be away from my family..." I seemed to stutter over every word that tried to leave my mouth the Duke on the other hand is hard like a rock

"Breath Miss Melanie. I do not wish to marry you, yes you are quite a woman to look at and spend my time with..." he seems to be having a hard time speaking as his voice is barely a whisper "but I don't wish to spend the rest of my life with you, I merely said that because most girls would offer themselves up before anyone else." I nod the tension finally leaving my back and nec

"I apologize Duke Borealis if I offended you in any way know that was not my intention." He nods and turns back to my side while holding out his elbow "shall we continue or call it a night?"

I clear my throat and interlace our elbows "I believe we are done here shall we go eat at the Pilaces Starlight?" He nods a small smile on his face "I think you forget when you say the names of places I don't know what or where they are." My jaw falls just a little "oh yes I do forget that just follow me and I'll lead you there." He nods his smile growing just a tad.

When we arrive at the bakery we quickly buy some sweet treats and some bread to share and we sit in the dark cube of a seating area. It's lit only by the sky, the walls are a dark navy blue lined with a forest green color

"I must ask why is it name Pilaces Starlight? Is this the best bakery in the entire district?" I shake my head no and swallow my small piece of bread before answering

"Long ago before even my mother was born a man was here his name was Pilaces well another man from the fire district didn't like Pilaces, something about Pilaces selling sweets you would find over in the fire district...but the man from the fire district came here to try the sweets and rumor has it the Pilacess sweets were better than the other man's and the man out of jealousy lit Pilaces on fire and he burned to death. So in his memory they built this restaurant the stargazing part of the name is because at night you can see the stars and planets." I stuff a piece of cookie in my mouth as the duke stares at table his jaw tight he seems angry

I swallow not caring to finish chewing "not that the fire district is bad! That one man doesn't speak for the whole district, I'm sure someone from the Air district has wronged someone from another district." He looks at me his jaw still tight and his eyes narrow while looking at me

"Do you worry I will light you on fire? Make one wrong move or upset me and I'll just burn you alive." His voice is even which somehow scares me even more

"No..." I try to sound confident but the way he is looking at me is frightening "I mean you could if you wanted but I don't think you want to...one could argue that I could kill you right now!" He raises an eyebrow clearly not believing me

"You could kill me right now?" I nod "look I didn't mean to insinuate that the fire district wronged you and this probably wasn't the best place to come to but the air district is just as powerful and we can kill as well." He clears his throat and unclenches his jaw

"These are quite delicious." He picks up a cookie and bites it

Good going Melanie you made everything awkward and you already apologized so what else can you do

"Would you like to leave I only came here to show you the sky but clearly I shouldn't have and we can go somewhere else, there is a pond and the water is magical it floats around the bouts." I try and come up with an alternative but he shakes his hand

"Stop, take a breath...it's fine. We can stay. What is the park named after?" I give a small smile and tear off a piece of bread

"It's named after a girl from the water district, she was here being courted by a Duke however the Duke wasn't with her one day when she was in the park, and she came upon these kids two little girls being harassed by a group of teenage boys and she was the reason those girls are still alive to this day..." he keeps watching me as I continue eating the bread a forced smile on my face

"Well that's and interesting story does everything in this district have some gruesome story attached to it?" I take a second to think about it before answering "no we have some things named off of old rulers and influential figures who have died" he nods and finishes his food then clears his throat "I think I should start heading back home I'll see you at the ball in the water district." I nod and turn to Robort who's been sitting at another table Lady Isabella talking to him.

"Have a safe journey home Edmund." He nods before holding his hand out for mine "Tell your brother I said goodbye." I give him my hand and he plants a kiss on it while I nod.

Welcome lady's and gentlemen.

Miss Melanie and the Duke were spotted out on a date and the Duke seemed to have left in an extremely bad mood. Wonder what Miss Melanie did to make the Duke to make him so mad.

In the water district we seem to have a very rare thing happening young Miss Marina Lorin is being courted by someone of a lower status...and by the looks of things she seems to be enjoying it.
