6) Edmund

The next morning when the paper was delivered my mother was screaming her head off not just at me and Robort but father as well.

She was livid I didn't dance with a single person and that I snuck away for a tour of some manor that she swore must have been the ugliest thing on the planet simply because it was in the fire district.

Let me tell you it was far from ugly every room I went in I just fell more and more in love and by the end of the tour I was almost begging for another just so I wouldn't ever forget that manor not that I could it was to perfect to forget...it was almost as perfect as the man who owned it... What am I thinking he is a fireling he is automatically ugly because of that!

I have a couple minutes before I can be called upon but mother is making sure she is screaming at me for those minutes....

I will say by the time it came for suitors I was surprised anyone showed up let alone a Duke... and not just any Duke it's the fireling Duke from last night!

Oh and he has the flowers from last night... Verbena oh how gorgeous they are

I could see my mother trying to keep herself from ripping her hair out the second she saw him. "Ah duchess so good to see you up and feeling better, it's such a shame you missed last nights ball." My mother nodded with a forced smile on her face "yes I must apologize for missing that." The duke turns to me with a grin on his face

"Miss. Would it be alright if I sat and talked with you?" I look to my mother hoping she will tell me what to do but she is to busy glaring at the duke to notice me, so I do what I wish and give him a nod with a smile on my face.

My mother turns her glare from the Duke to me a look that says 'I hope you enjoy this little moment now because later I am going to be ripping you apart' but that's an issue for later. I pay the spot next to me as my mother leaves the room since Robort is here she isn't needed to be in the room, plus I think she wants as far away from the Duke as possible.

"How may I help you Duke Borealis?" I give him a smile as he sits on the couch next to me, while handing me the stunning flowers which make my smile even bigger

"If I may speak plainly..." he whispers low enough to where I can hear him but my brother can't and I give a small nod for him to continue "I am looking for a wife, but I do not wish to marry anyone from the fire district and I assume someone of your stature would know many woman... which to choose which not to, and I would prefer a woman of a different... nature..."

"You wish for me to help you find a wife from the air district?!" I whisper my heart beating out of my chest as he gives me a sly grin "yes." I can't find any words to express how stupid of an idea that is

"No air and fire have ever been together... I don't even think a water has married into the air district before..." he nods and adjusts his coat "have you never wondered why? I have which is why I plan to marry someone not from my district." But why air? I want so badly to ask but it isn't my place to question a lord.

"Ok I'll help you... but you have to do something for me." He nods "of course you would want something for your information, what is it you would like?" I think for a minute just staring at the flowers as an idea comes to me...

"I want to visit the other districts... Your ball was the first time I've ever left my district and I wish to see more..T-to know more about the different cultures to read the books you get that we don't to-to I'm not sure but just leave and see the things i wouldn't be able to..."

I finally look at the duke to see him with a raised eyebrow before he nods and speaks "the fire district I can arrange the water district may take longer to make happen but I will see to it that you get what you wish." He stands and buttons up his coat I hadn't even noticed he unbuttoned it I must have been distracted by the flowers

He holds out his hand for me to take as he give me a smile "Please call me Edmund." I give him my hand as he places a kiss on it "Next time I'll bring you some flowers that are actually hard to come by." He winks at me then turns towards my brother as Lord Donavan enters the room

I quickly stand and give a small curtsy"My lord." He gives a small bow to me in return "I'm here to call upon you Lady Melanie." I give him a small smile.

It's not that I dislike Lord Donavan, but he is quite old. His face and gut both droop, while he himself is not very rich... personally I think he would be an extreme step down.

"My lord would you give me one moment to say goodbye to my last suitor?" I said it more as a statement than a question but the lord gave me a quick nod as I turned to the fireling.

I give him curtsy while containing eye contact "I expect you to call upon me soon Edmund... preferably with flowers" I make sure my tone is playful as I have a huge grin on my face while he bows and grins back at me "of course mi lady I will make sure not to bring such disgraceful flowers next time." He has the same playful tone

I lean toward him and whisper "Goodbye Edmund and just so you know you may call me Melanie." He smirks and nods before speaking "Goodbye Miss Melanie, have a good day with the rest of your suitors."

       .... I did not have a good rest of the day

Welcome back lady's and gentlemen,

Miss Melanie seemed to have a very eventful day today as she was visited by 15 eligible young suitors and while that is quite extraordinary she was also visited by a Duke from an entirely different district than she is.

No one is knows what they discussed but whatever is was seemed to leave Lady Melanie gleeful the entire day.

As for Duke Borealis he was seen at a very exotic flower shop after he left Miss Melanie today. The Duke stopped by all three districts just to look at flowers, could they be for a certain woman? I don't know about you all but I sure am starting to wonder what exactly happened on that tour for the Duke to be interested in Miss Melanie this quickly.

But more importantly how is the Queen handling this news? We all know she frowns upon the districts marrying into one another especially if it's high borns, let alone the girl the Queen chose as this years flower.

I wonder how the Duchess took it when the Duke showed up to her house wanting to speak with Miss Melanie...

Moving on to news in the water district Lady Layla daughter of Lord and Lady Dernibase is speculated to be with child... I do hope the rumors are true we all know a lady won't be married to someone of high class if she is ruined and used..
