Akomori slumps against me and her breathing evens as she falls asleep. Marlen curls upbesude me, and goes to sleep. I sigh and relax, I feel content. I look up and I see my father, but our eyes connect, and I glare at him. he glares back the air crackles with the tension. he walks over and crouches I wrap my arms around Marlen and I pulled Marlen close to me. he looks at me shocked, "wow Kate, you care for that tiny boy?" He laughs and I shush him and I hear Akomori's breath hitch "shes not gonna make it kate." I glare at him and stay silent, "neither is that boy" my blood boils and I narrow my eyes. “because they aren't like us-" I cut him off "I'm nothing like you" he chuckles "yes you are you hate everyone, I hate everyone, I am father you’re my daughter. we are Basically the same. You have my eyes. My determination. My instincts."

     He looks at me puzzled, "so what's so special about these two?” I glare at him "shut up" he smiles "the world is cold now. like us. they aren't gonna make it. don't let them drag you down they'll die, and we will be here true survivors. While they freeze to death in the unrelenting cold" I clench my teeth and I pull akomori and Marlen close to me. "listen, I am nothing like you. they will make it. even if I die, they will make it, but I will tell you something dad. I. Will. Out. Live. You." He stands turns then leaves without another word and I glare after him. Akomori's breathing regulates and I relax and close my eyes. In the morning I wake up it's early and the world is still asleep

     I open my eyes everyone is still asleep and I look around my father is asleep against the wall Kim sleeps alone and Harry lays a few feet from her with Ethan by his side Riley and Kara her locked in each other's arms and sleeping, Marlen is sleeping peacefully in my lap and akomori is surprisingly awake. "hey" akomori doesn't respond which is weird "hey akomori?" it seems she is miles away even though she is right next to me, she removes her head from my shoulder and she looks at the ground puzzled. "hey akomori, what's wrong?" Akomori doesn't meet my eyes, "Kate did you mean what you said last night" I freeze and my palms grow sweaty "i-i want to know because" she starts to stammer and I tilt my head and she's acting weird.

     "i-i want to know because really when you held me that night in my house the day before the crazies showed up. i-it made me feel something and now I can't see you differently! A-and when you protect me i-it……. I just need to know, okay?" She blushes and looks at me. "yes I did mean it akomori, I really care about you. I know that I used to be bad to you. But I've started to like you” she blushes and smiles "t-thank you" she looks at me and moves quickly and kisses me on my cheek before pulling away. "maybe when this is all over we could....uh you know 'hang out''' the runs rises and I cup my cheek and smile at her "guess it's a date" we share a bashful giggle then she then turns and hurries away

     "oh that's why she's different" my fathers cold voice booms from across the police station and it wakes the kids Kara and Riley wake up with a gasp and Riley moves to protect Kara from. An unseen threat,  Harry wakes up and is on his feet quickly but then grunts because of his leg wound. Ethan grunts as Harry steps on him and Mark and Sarah pop their heads over the counter that akomori laid on when we first got here.  Marlen wakes with a whimper and akomori freezes and I look at my father with a glare "what does he mean by that kate?" Ethan asks as he looks at me confused. I look at him but I stay silent "I'll tell you what it means'' my father says menacingly akomori panics and she screams. "It means nothing!" The group of kids looks at her unconvinced and I stand up

    "it's true it means nothing!" My father stands and he shakes his head.  "I can't believe I raised you to be like that" I ball my hand into a fist and I stare at him "I can't believe you are les-" suddenly the door fly's open and people pour inside adults and I shield Marlen the adults pour inside and they hold up guns my eyes dart to akomori and she looks at me I protective instinct ignites within me and I go to run to her but then a gun clicks and is pointed at me I think quickly and I take my gun and I ready it in a second I aim I shoot it, the bullet flies no one could react only the reading sound of the gun shot and and it lands in the head of a woman Marlen screams as blood splatters onto the wall behind her and her body slumps to the floor, I never knew her name

    "to the roof! Go!" The group of kids waste no time and run to the office that leads to the roof Ethan holds the door open so the rest of the group can run in and I watch and make sure everyone gets in safety akomori is last and I see my father get cornered akomori looks back and sees this "don't!" I shout but she is already running back to save him and my father grabs her hair and yanks her in front of him "I'll give you this one! Like I did with Kate!" My eyes widen as I realize who cornered him it was the man his white bony finger traced a line across her jaw line and the rest of the adults raise their guns at us and I move Marlen behind me and the mans hand wraps around akomori's throat "such a pretty little thing"

    anger boils in me and Ethan runs forward with a scream and panicked my father throws out his knife and It embeds itself into Ethan's neck his eyes widen and he tries to scream but it comes out has a gurgled whine and my father pulls his knife out of Ethan's throat and Ethan falls back and his hands fly up to his throat and he grabs it he tries to breathe in a gurgled and choked on his own blood, And I pull my hand gun Marlen whimpers behind me "Marlen look away" I say gravely and my father looks at me wide eyed and Marlen does he covers his ears but it does little to muffle the sound as I pull the trigger,

     Ethan's eyes go wide as the bullet Pierces his head and blood splatters on the ground and my father nods at me I glare and I aim my gun at him "give me back akomori!" He narrows his eyes and the man turns and faces me. My hands grow shaky as fear flies through my system and I point the gun at him "oh my poor bride is still so scared of me?" The man says in a low and scratchy voice "maybe I should go with a new model" he says as she cups akomori's face and I breath heavily "give me her back!" Tears fill my eyes "right now you sick fuck!" He smiles and he glares at me "tell you what I am gonna take her for now..... You'll get her back tonight. Unharmed and un...... Touched only if you come to my camp" he smiles and takes a step towards me "and you'll be my plaything and then the mother to my children got it kate?" My eyes widen and I shake my head furiously

     "I'll never do that!  give her back!" I look over and I see my father is holding akomori by the hair "help me kate" akomori pleads as she stares at me and I point my gun at him "let her go now!" I glare through my tears and my father shakes his head,  filled with anger I pull the trigger and the bullet flies through the air like a bird and then it makes contact with my fathers shoulder his body jerks back and I run forward with a scream but the man steps forward but I gulp down my fear and I jump on him and pull back my fist in a punch before I can shoot my fist forward he throws his head at me and it connects with mine and I am thrown back and he brings his leg up and at my head my head jerks and hits the ground akomori screams "ka-!" and everything goes black...
