Christina brought me outside of the cafe and sat me down on a bright red bench. "Now tell me, what happened..?" Christina asked hesitantly. My mind was swirling with thoughts and I couldn't really form a full sentence. All that came out was a heavy sobbing sound and more tears blurred my vision. She laid her arms around me and pulled me close to her. At least that brought me a bit of comfort. So we just sat there for a bit, Christina with me in her arms and me crying into her shirt, leaving damp stains. She didn't mind. After a while I fished my phone out of my pocket with shaky fingers and handed it to Christina with the opened message. She quietly read through it and her gaze saddened. "Oh Sonya...I'm so sorry..." she muttered quietly and laid her arms around me again. I wished that this would solve my problem. But I didn't know if anything could close the gap in my soul ever again.
Christina told the other girl we were at the cafe with, Marisa, that she would bring me home. Marisa nodded and looked at me with an understanding expression. She only saw my tear stricken face but she didn't know the story behind it. And I didn't have the energy to tell her. Not now. All I wanted to do was to crawl under a blanket on my couch and weep. Christina motioned me to get into the passenger seat of her blue Toyota and drove me home. The drive was quiet the entire time and the normally quickly passing 15 minutes felt like an eternity now. Christina even brought me into my appartment and helped me hang up my jacket. She really cared for me. "Thank you Christina, this wasn't neccesary..." I said but Christina quickly cut me off and answered: "Yes this is. Sonya, I know how it feels to lose a family member, you need someone to help you right now. I know it. And I'm here for that" She then wrapped me into another tight hug. God, I appreciated her so much.
She stayed until late evening and said goodbye with a small, sad smile. And then this incredibly heavy feeling of being alone crashed onto me again. I didn't know what else I could do so I got ready for bed. And when I finally laid down on my mattress I knew, that this would become a long night.
