I was running through the woods while something was chasing me. I could feel them hot on my tail but I couldn't run any faster. No matter how hard I trained, everything went out the window the second something bad really happened. I didn't know to fight, but to flee. I was launching myself over fallen logs which was slowing down my speed. I made the mistake of glancing back to see this midnight black wolf right behind me. My only thought was to survive.

I thought back to my time at the camp and willed my legs to pump faster. If I could run ten miles with the rogue hunters and almost keep up with them, then I sure as hell can outrun this wolf. I cut to my left and in my momentarily lead against the black wolf, I felt my mind start to slow down. I was processing everything that happened around me in slow motion. I was looking through the eyes of a hunter. I shot off like a bullet out of a gun and heard the wolfs ferocious growl sound from behind me.

I was darting through the trees as if nothing could get in my way. I let out a triumph howl because I knew I was winning. I never thought that I would be the one to outrun another wolf. I was the weak girl in the bottom of the pack. Now I was the strong bad ass girl that could fight anyone. At least, that's what I thought until I was tackled to the ground. The black wolf was standing over me with a snarl marring his face. He had his teeth bared and his eyes narrowed. I thought back to my training and and started to focus. There is no way I'm going to let myself die right now.

With every ounce of strength in me, I shoved him with my hind legs. He flew off me but the second he hit the ground he was already charging. I knew by the way his head didn't didn't tilt and he wasn't letting up his speed that he was going to run right into me. I waited till the very last second to jump out of the way. He crashed into a tree and I couldn't help a wolfy chuckle. It was going to be a piece of cake fighting him.

We fought a little bit, neither one of us getting the upper hand. Both our fur was coated in thick blood but that didn't stop me. I ran at him one more time but I wasn't so lucky. He locked his jaws into my neck and shook me around. He then flung me into a tree and my vision blurred. I tried to stand but I wobbled then collapsed. He didn't attack me again and I waited for my vision to clear before I looked up. Standing once where the wolf was now stood Zach. I couldn't help the whimper that escaped my lips at the sight of him.

"Shift," he commanded and I had no choice but to obey. I shifted into my normal human body as I stared at his naked one. I tried to cover myself the best I could but my cheeks still flamed. I looked into his eyes that held nothing but anger. His bright green eyes that are soft when he talks to his friends are now blazing with hate. I noticed his shift in body weight but I couldn't fight back anymore. Now that I knew it was him, I just couldn't fight. I let my emotions get in the way.

I whispered one single word, "Zach," before he attacked me.

I woke up breathing heavily and my body drenched in sweat. My dream last night was so vivid I thought it actually happened. I rolled out of bed and put my workout clothes on. I was so accustom to running the ten miles in the morning that I think I'll keep it up. I have school today so I had to wake up extra early. I was finally going to see my friends again, and my mate.

I was wearing tight skinny jeans, a white V-neck, a leather jacket, and black combat boots with the spike on the toe and heels. I looked kick ass and sexy at the same time. The girls at the camp helped me pick out some stuff to wear. After I told them about my mate problem, they were in it to help. I applied a little makeup and then I was off to school.

I pulled into my parking spot and jumped out. I was looking forward to seeing all my friends. They were crowded around Jason's car and they haven't even noticed that I was there yet. I didn't tell any of them that I was coming to school today. They didn't even know that I was back in the country. As I watched them, they seemed the same. Jason has his arm wrapped around Lauren's shoulder. Kara was talking as loud as she could to have everyone's attention and Marcus was making smart comments about what she was saying. Yep, I definitely missed them.

"Hey guys?" I called out and they all turned towards me. I was standing in the middle of the parking lot as they all raced at me. Marcus was the first to grab me as he spun me around. He set me down and I was enveloped into a huge group hug.

"We missed you so much!" Kara squealed and pulled me tighter. I wheezed for breath and got out of her death grip.

"I missed you guys too! Not having you there was the hardest part of it all."

"Well you've definitely gotten one thing out of going there," Marcus said.

"And what would that be?" I asked.

"You are looking mighty fine!" He whistled and I rolled my eyes. Marcus will always be Marcus.

"Oh shut up," I said and shoved him out of the way.

"It's cause' I'm black ain't it?!" He said and I had to resist the urge to roll my eyes again.

"No Marcus, it's because you're annoying as hell. I've gotta go get all my makeup work from my teachers so I'll see you all later." I was walking to the building and I felt the tingles. I knew Zach was near but I didn't want to face him right now. I blocked out my emotions and kept walking. I made it into the building without seeing him but I felt him. I zoned in on my senses and I knew that he was following me. I decided to keep walking until there were no people around. I didn't want a human to witness what I was about to do.

When the hallway was emptied out I spun around and shoved Zach against the lockers. I had my right arm against his chest and my left arm on his throat. His eyes were so wide that I knew he wasn't expecting it. I growled low and threatening in my throat and narrowed my eyes.

"Funny how the last time we were in this position, the roles were reversed," I said in a joking way but didn't let up my hold.

"You look hot," he said and I rolled my eyes. I shoved him harder against the locker for good measure then took a step back.

"What do you want, Zach?"

"What? You can't give your mate the time of day?"

"If I remember correctly, you rejected me." He cringed slightly and I cocked my head. He cringed as if he thought the idea of rejecting me made him feel bad.

"That was before you went away for an entire month," he said and my heart melted. No, he's a player, I don't need to be thinking that way.

"Yeah well, it doesn't change the way I feel about you."

"I never said it changed the way I feel about you," he said with a smirk. Of course he just came here to reject me again. Fan-fucking-tastic!

"Yeah, still the heartless bastard you were before I left." He let out a growl and took a step towards me. I wasn't the least bit threatened though.

"You don't want to taunt me. I don't care what I have to do to people, my mate or not, in order to get them to respect me. You might want to watch your tone of voice," he growled.

"What are you going to do? Hit me? Throw me against the wall?" I taunted and I saw the gears going in his head. He shifted his weight forward and in the blink of an eye he charged at me. I expected this though since I was now seeing out of a hunters eyes. Everything was going in slow motion. He rammed into the lockers on the opposite wall and I moved so I was leaning on the one he was just at.

"Don't hurt yourself now. I wouldn't want to be the cause of the Alpha getting hurt," I smirked as he raced at me again. This time instead of getting out of the way I just side stepped him a little bit. I grabbed his arm and when he hit the lockers I pulled his arm behind him and held him there. His cheek was pressed against it as he struggled to get out of my hold.

"God dammit Piper! Get the hell off me!"

"You're too predictable. Next time you want to get into a fight, know your opponent. I don't like taking your bullshit," I sneered at him and threw his arm into the locker. Along with my fighting came my new found confidence. No longer was I the weak girl that took the bullying, I now stood up for myself.

"Watch your back Piper Listford, we're not done here!" Zach called out angrily as I made my way down the hall. Instead of turning around and saying something, I gave him the finger and kept walking. My life just got a whole lot better.
