The SinClair house became abandoned years after the murder of James SinClair. The tragedy of the small town left the home vacant and nothing more than four walls. Newcomers were unwelcome to haunted halls and residents refused to enter upon.
So the house sat, haunted and weeping. Existing as a scary story for kids on Halloween as they trick or treat.
Jason finds himself upon the haunted treasury. A cold lifeless house that was once filled with laughter.
He couldn't imagine Sienna in this home. At least, not happily. Maybe in its golden days the home was warm and inviting but now it was nothing more than a rotting home where joy went to die.
The glass above the door had been broken in, likely by squatters or delinquent kids. Jason had his share of house parties. He understood the thrill of abandoned places.
Finding himself in the home that causes his girlfriend so much pain made him angry. She was supposed to be protected inside these walls but her family failed to keep her close.
Her father lost his life trying to do the right thing.
He searches through the rooms of the house, looking for any reminders of things that Sienna might have forgotten. Anything lost.
He's at a dead end for it all mostly. Jenna had packed everything valuable up when they ditched the town for Rosewood.
Nonetheless, Jason ventures. He stumbles upon what looks like a master bedroom. The room looks like the rest of the house, dull and forgotten but there are signs of life scattered throughout. Pictures on the wall show the SinClair family before demise. Some are graffitied, another shattered.
Hospital bills lay upon the nightstand. They're dated upon the time of James death until 3 years ago. Jason quickly shuffles around searching the surrounding area to see if there's any missing letters or mismatched dates. There aren't.
He makes another list.
Psychiatric bills are present until 3 years ago:
1. Someone brought those bills into this house and opened them
2. Either the person who opened them knows April or is April
3. The person opened random mail because they're nose
4. The letters ended because the address was changed
5. The letters ended because April is no longer receiving treatment.Jason quickly takes a picture of all the letters before putting them back into place.
He finds himself in what used to be Sienna's room. The walls are bare but the room remains full. Sienna opted to only take small things. She didn't want reminders of the past.
"Anything that could be replaced, I replaced. I only took a few sentimental things."
She's been mournful while she told him the story. Plagued by the nightmares that haunted her dreams.
"The only thing I wish I wouldn't taken was my bear. My dad gave it to me and at the time I was till stubborn to care. I was heartbroken and I didn't want reminders of the dad I lost. Now? I would do anything for it."
If Jason could find that bear it would be like a needle in a haystack. Small and hard to find. The chances of it still being there were low.
Jason begins to feel his hands along the walls.
"Most people hide things in the floor. Not me. That's too obvious. I hid the bear in the wall. My dad helped me one day when my mom and April were out. He knew I wanted to keep it safe and away from her. Just in case."
Sienna has always been clever and loved mysteries. She was intelligent and brave. Hiding objects in the wall was the perfect trait to have. She'd find a place that was damaged and break it away, quickly sealing it back away.
The walls of Sienna's childhood room were nearly perfect besides the graffiti now littering them. Jason checks every inch for inconsistencies. He finds himself searching the closet, perhaps deeper is better. And suddenly when he feels it's hopeless, there's a spot that's slightly lower.
He knocks on the parts of the walls supporting the patch and finds a hollow spot.
A newfound hope fills his chest. Maybe he could help Sienna after all. If she came home wouldn't this make her happy?
Jason's eyes glance around the room, searching for anything that could break through. A baseball bat rests in the corner and before Jason even considers, he's pounding through.
Dust flies at his face but Jason keeps hitting until he makes a hole big enough to break through.
There, in the center is a bear wrapped in a baby blue blanket.
A smile adorns Jason's face and relief bleeds into his veins. A good omen among his ways. His hands close around the swaddled bear and he removes it from the wall, pulling it safely into his arms.
He removes his phone from his pocket and uses the light to search the whole once more, panning up and down just be sure. He pulls away when he suddenly sees a small envelope that lays.
To: Sienna
From: DadJason rolls the envelope between his fingertips, gently caressing the note that could be Sienna's favorite thing.
"I've got her." Jason whispers, hoping that James can hear it.
