After working through most of Khory's missions we were finally onto the last one. The city lights sparkled like scattered jewels in the darkness as Khory and I navigated through the bustling streets. Our target was an influential figure attending a high-profile party at a luxurious downtown hotel. This man was known for trafficking women he typically picked up at his parties, and that was how we were going to stop him..playing victim. The mission was crucial, and failure was not an option in either one of our books as we both agreed this man is vile.

This was originally supposed to be Khory's mission alone, but once again it was pushed onto me and I dragged her ass along anyways. Once we arrived at the hotel, we quickly blending into the crowd with ease. The lavish event was in full swing, and the air was thick with the sound of laughter and clinking glasses. Khory, with her effortless charm and feline grace, quickly took to the task of mingling with the guests and gather info as she called it.

I stayed close, scanning the room for our target, keeping an eye on Khory to ensure she stayed focused. But soon enough, her attention shifted. I noticed her laughing and flirting with a group of young men around our age. I couldn't particularly pinpoint if it was anyone familiar from the angle I was standing out but I was peeved she wasn't taking this serious.

I was going to casually remind her of her purpose on this mission, but I was quickly caught off guard by the presence of an all too familiar redhead sitting in her vicinity. The boy was dressed sharply in a black suit, exuding both confidence and mischief, and his flirtatious nature was at an all time high. Unfortunately Khory was reciprocating with equal enthusiasm and playing into it, like it was a sick game... it probably was in both of their books....

"Khory, we need to stay on task," I said, my voice low and urgent.

She turned to me, a playful smile on her lips. "Relax, Y/N. Just blending in," she replied, batting her eyelashes at Karma. Karma's eyes flicked to me, his devious smirk widening.

"Kitten, didn't expect to see you here," he said, clearly amused by the situation.

"Kitten?! He knows" Khory mouthed the last bit as her demeanor slightly shifted. It was more hostile and way less playful.

"Me and Kitten here go way back" he smiled inviting me to sit next to him which I rejected.

"Why are you even here!" I harshly whispered before he forcefully made me sit down next to him.

"Calm down, you'll stick out like a sore thumb if you get all angry" he patted my head. "I'm just here for a party. My parents get invited every so often and this year, I decided to tag along." He explained while looking around.

"So you're parents know the owner?" Khory questioned while leaning into him.

"Know the owner, no. Know of him, yes" he corrected." It's all about networking. People always know about people and get invited to events without really knowing the person. The fun parts of being well off" he sarcastically smirked.

"This isn't a good place for you, Akabane," I hissed, trying to keep my voice steady. "You need to leave. Now."Karma raised an eyebrow, still leaning casually into his seat.

"And why would I do that? The night's just getting interesting."

Khory laughed, clearly enjoying the tension. "Come on, Y/N, lighten up. We're just having a little fun."

I could feel my patience wearing thin. "Fun or not, we have a mission to complete," I snapped, glaring at Khory. "And Akabane, you being here puts you at risk. You need to go."

"A government mission, and Kitty over here is carrying it out" Karma mused, his smirk never wavering. He leaned closer to me, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "You always manage to surprise me, Y/N."
