Chapter 6: birthday confessions

It had been a few weeks, and Tara's birthday was finally here. Her mom wasn't, though, so we decided to throw her a party at her house.

[Mindy: So Tara, your mom's really not coming?]

[Tara: No, she's on a work trip]

[BS that she can't show up for your birthday tho]

[Liv: righttt]

[Tara: I'm used to it, it's ok]

[Mindy:🫂🫂🫂]

[Have you tried reaching out to Sam?]

[Tara: she texted me happy birthday and sent me $100]

[Mindy: That's the most she's done in a while]

[Tara: I was just happy she answered my text]

[Mindy: ok, the light will be green any second, but we're almost there, Tara. Gotta put my phone down]

[Tara: okayyy]

I was in the passenger seat of Mindy's car. Everyone else was in the back. We went to the bakery a while ago to pick up the cake Mindy and I ordered for her.

It had yellow frosting decorating the edges and white frosting all around. The cake also had a baby picture of Tara on it.

"I think she's gonna love that cake." Mindy said.

"It's so cute." I said admiring it.

"Can I have a cake with my face on it for my birthday?" Mindy asked me.

"Our birthday." Chad corrected.

"Don't worry, I have something cute planned for you guys." I said.

"Our favorite party planner." Chad said.

"So when's the next rager?" Mindy said, pulling into Tara's neighborhood.

"I don't know about rager, but..."

"Oh, c'mon, what happened to 2019 party girl Amber." Mindy pouted.

"I don't know, it's been a lot of parties." I said. "Let's just worry about today's birthday party."

"Tara's big 17!!" Mindy said.

"Wes, can you get the cake cutter and the candles and bring it in?" Liv asked.

"Sure, Wes replied."

"You guys got all the gifts?" Mindy asked.

"Liv and I will carry the gifts in." Chad said.

"I'll get the balloons, Amber has the cake, ok? Let's go." Mindy said.

Tara left the door open for us. She was in the bathroom getting ready. We'd told her not to come downstairs because we wanted the setup to be a surprise.

"Tara, don't come down, we're setting up, it's not burglars!" Mindy called upstairs.

"Okay!" Tara said back.

"Set up the gift table over there." Mindy said.

It took us about 15 minutes to get everything set. Mindy and Chad set up a bar and all the drinks in the kitchen for guests.

"When are the people coming?" Liv asked.

"About 30 minutes." I said out of breath, with my hands on my hips. "I wanna surprise her before they get here, though." I said.
