Adaline Black was looking down at her beautiful daughter in her arms, Lilith Andromeda Black. She was already one year old, but in Adaline's eyes, she was still the little girl she saw on day one.
"I know Lilith is adorable, but we really need to get going if we want to see James and Lily on time," Sirius Black, Adaline's older brother, said.
Adaline rolled her eyes. "Says the person who was staring at her first."
Sirius' mouth dropped. "Am I not allowed to admire my one and only niece?"
"And am I not allowed to admire my one and only daughter?" Adaline fought back.
"... Fair point," Sirius said.
Adaline laughed. "Here, you can hold her on the way," she said, gently handing him Lilith, who was sleeping peacefully.
Sirius was always known for being a bit crazy, playing pranks on the students at Hogwarts together with his other three friends. they called themselves the Marauders, Adaline always thought they were idiots. She never got involved anyway. She was in Slytherin together with her twin brother, Regulus. But seeing how careful Sirius was with little Lilith, she smiled.
Adaline's heart ached when she thought of her twin brother. He tragically died, to which the reason Adaline never knew.
When Adaline was fifteen, Sirius ran from home to go live with the Potter's. For a while, the twins didn't speak with Sirius when they were at Hogwarts, mad at their older brother for leaving them in that aweful place they called home. After a while, Adaline started talking with him again and found him a lot happier than when he was at home. Adaline felt happy for him. Regulus, however, did not talk to him, for whatever reason Adaline never found out as they drifted apart more when their parents wanted them to take the Dark Mark and join the Dark Lord.
This was when Adaline ran away from home, just like her brother, only one year later.
Adaline was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't realise Sirius was talking to her. "Ads, did you hear me?"
"What? Oh, no, sorry," Adaline apologised.
"I said that I can never understand why Lilith's father could just leave the both of you, I mean, look at this little bundle of joy," he said, holding Lilith closer to his chest. Adaline tensed when Sirius mentioned the father. "And you, my darling little sister, are one of the best people one could have in their lives."
Adaline gave a tense chuckle, though Sirius didn't notice. "I already told you what happened, we... had a fun night in New York, and I didn't know I was pregnant until I came back."
It was mostly true. After she finished Hogwarts, she decided she wanted to go to New York for a few weeks before she started a new journey in her life. Let's just say things got.... a little interesting with a person she met in a bar.
The next morning in her hotel room, all that was left was a note, saying that he hoped she had a good time, he certainly did, and wished he got to know her more. He wished her a good rest of her life.
A few days before she went back to London, she was feeling very sick. She didn't think much of it until she arrived back in her little apartment in downtown London did she actually think of the possibility of being pregnant.
After going to St Mungo's Hospital, did she find out she was pregnant. Adaline was a wreck. She couldn't raise a child by herself.
That evening, in her apartment, she was lying on the couch, thinking about what she was supposed to do next, when a knock came from her door.
