"La la la la loo la loo la...do do do do doooo..." Joseph sang.
Of course Miley gets to sit by Joseph on this plane ride and Jack gets to sit by Jennifer. Joseph looked at Miley and grinned showing his missing two front teeth. She gave him a quick smile then put in her ear buds and turned on "Come back...be here" by Taylor Swift.
She must've fallen asleep because when She woke up there was only an hour left till we got to Amsterdam. Miley looked around me and noticed that Joseph had gone and sat by Jane and Jack who used to be sitting by Joseph was staring at Miley. They made eye contact and he quickly looked away.
All of a sudden Jack scoots into the seat where Joseph used to sit.
"Um...hi". Jack mumbled.
Miley just kind of stared at him for a minute, then said, "Hey Jack".
Jack looked uncomfortable, which almost made Miley laugh. He was so attractive, yet he was so shy and awkward.
They sat in silence for about five minutes and then Miley said, "i don't really want things to be awkward because we're kind of like siblings until this case is over and I move out. I was thinking that we could be friends?" Then she quickly added, "if that's okay with you."
Jack laughed nervously. "Yeah that sounds okay. I'm sorry I've been avoiding you. I just...I'm not like the kind of person who sees a cute girl and starts flirting with her. I've been rude and I'm sorry."
Miley couldn't believe Jack was apologizing. "Jack! Aw come on, you didn't do anything wrong. I've made things awkward. But let's be friends okay?"
"Okay." Jack smiled. Then he scooted back to his seat and put his earbuds in.
Miley turned around to face the window and she smiled to herself. But then she thought, "He said we were like siblings...i can't like him then. But...we're technically not siblings so it's fine."
The plane landed an hour later. Jane's family and Miley got to their hotel and since it was almost midnight they figured out their sleeping arrangements and crashed into bed. Miley was sharing a room with Jennifer.
"Miiillleeeyyy....Miley-wake uppp..." Someone was gently shaking her awake.
"Ugh Jane...its too early..." Miley mumbled.
Miley rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and focused on Jane. Miley yelped. It wasn't Jane, it was Jack.
"Jack! What are you doing!?" Miley whisper yelled.
"I need to ask you something." Jack replied. Miley couldn't see his face in the dark but she guessed that he was blushing.
Miley sighed and got out of bed. Her and Jack walked out to the family room in the hotel. Jack sat down on the couch and Miley sat in a chair across from him.
"Okay so um I just have a question that's been kind of bothering me since you arrived..." Jack started.
Miley was trying to process this. Jack needed to ask her a question? And not to mention that Miley probably looked like she just got hit by a bus.
"-that hard for you?" Jack said snapping Miley back to reality.
"Uhh sorry I wasn't re-really listening...can you ask the question again? Sorry." Miley blushed.
Jack looked at her weird before saying, "Well since you came, it doesn't really seem like you are sad about your moms death...like your kind of just solving this case with my mom but you...it doesn't seem like your too upset."
"Hmmm..." Miley didn't know what to say. Did she miss her mom? Of course she did! It's just...they weren't that close.
Miley looked up at Jack. "Me and my mom weren't that close. I wasn't close to either of my parents. I have good memories with them but they worked to much and I didn't get some good family moments, like most families do. I'm sad about my mom. I really am. I don't really like to show my emotions so I've tried to mask my feelings about this whole situation." Miley could feel tears build up in her eyes. But she was not going to cry in front of Jack. She looked down.
"Gosh Miley...i feel awful saying that you don't miss your mom. I'm sorry I made you talk about it." Jack apologized.
"It-it's okay. Maybe it was good to talk about it. The first night I stayed at your house, I couldn't stop thinking about my favorite memories with my mom. things like getting me ready for prom or surfing at the beach... but then, i started feeling bitter. I started thinking that if she didn't work so much, we could of had so many more memories. And now she's gone, no more memories." A tear fell down Miley's cheek.
Jack came over to her and gave her a hug. "I'm so sorry Miley. My dad and mom split up two years ago. I see my dad two weekends out of the whole year. I miss my dad a lot." Jack told Miley.
"I had no idea Jack. I'm so sorry... you're probably tired of hearing that, but I am."
Jack managed a small smile, "I'm the one who is supposed to be making you feel better and hear I am telling you my problems."
Miley laughed, "oh I don't mind."
They say there looking at each other, until Jack cleared his throat. "Um it's pretty early, we should probably get back."
"Uh yeah. Okay." Miley wished her and Jack could just sit there all night enjoying each other's company. No such luck.
Her and Jack awkwardly said bye to each other then went their separate ways.
For the first night in weeks, Miley cried herself to sleep.
