I climbed off the big girl bed, toward the loud noises. Mummy had been screaming, she told me when this happens to stay in my bedroom and count white sheep. Usually I would wake up the next day, and mummy had gone to her doctor's appointment.
I had always listened but she sounded really hurt this time. So I picked myself up and opened my door allowing the light to run into my room. It flies in like Tinkerbell, my favourite Disney princess. I was Tinkerbell for halloween. I was the prettiest girl in the room, after mummy of course.
Down the stairs I can see through the gaps in the railing. Red. Someone had split something. I knew what to do, I had done it a million billion times before. I grab the towel of the railing and rush down the stairs, I can help, I whisper. I can clean the red juice. As I turn to fully see. Mummy was bleeding, and father had all the red juice all over him.
“Mummy,” I said barely a whisper. Father turns to me. Panic on his face.
“Baby, come on let's go up stairs,” as he came in my way blocking my sight. But I wanted to see mummy.
He takes my hand wiping tears off his face. I caught a glimpse of mummy and she was holding a knife to her stomach. I ran to her, my father trying to stop me. I was hugging her until the police came, and pulled me off. Mummy had whispered something to me. I never could remember what. Yet it stuck to me like a fly to honey.
