This afternoon in biology class, Amanda and I decided that after class we were going to play tennis.
So right now, here we are unloading our anger every time we pass the ball to each other.
Nanda and I have always done this. Not to put aside Jaz obviously, but doing sports, is our way of telling each other what bothers us.
A strange tradition to be frank...
I'm facing the orange sky that covers the school tennis courts, while silently hitting the ball hard.
"Tell me," says Amanda on the other side of the field as she runs to hit the ball.
"There's nothing to tell" I give another move.
"Don't lie to me Bee, Tom told me" I lost the ball. I stand still looking at Amanda who passes under the net towards me. Her braids shape her face perfectly and her skirt swings with the late afternoon breeze. When she gets to the foot of me, she sits on the floor and signals me to do the same.
"What's going on between you and Jacob? Come on, Bee is Jacob! Like, so suddenly..."
"I don't even know to be honest... nothing happens in romantic terms," I hurried to say. "I have a strange feeling. I can't understand why he turned so suddenly to me... he makes me nervous, because I don't know his intentions, you know?" Amanda nods her head.
"The first time in the canteen, did you remember? He was nice, and again in class, but then..." I look at the sky.
"What I don't understand is what happened in the field... why did he come up to you if you barely talked?" She asks me. I started to blush with embarrassment.
"Amber.... What aren't you telling me?"
"Well.... Did you remember at the opening party?" Amanda says yes.
"I went to Emily's room before the fireworks, and unintentionally left the door unlocked..." I shake the racket in my hand nervously.
"And then someone came in and I hid in the bathroom" Amanda frowns.
"Someone came in? What do you mean?" A while goes by until she realize what I meant. Her expression of shock was immediate.
"OMG ARE YOU SERIOUS?!" I nod my head.
"WITH YOU IN THE BATHROOM?! You're fucking kidding me!"
"And do you want to know the worst part?" She nods reluctantly.
"He knew I was in the bathroom." Amanda gets up abruptly.
"Holy shit!" She sighs.
"I know... I know... then when I went to see Damon they were all there."
"And?"
"And he saw me laughing with Tom and when I tried to go to the bathroom to get away from him, he came after me and forced me to tell who Tom was. Of course I answered him that it wasn't with him and not to talk to me and that I wasn't afraid of who he was and then he left me alone..." I can see the shock and anger of my best friend.
"GIRL. You're strong. Did you have the courage to say that to his face?! Damn..." I get up too.
"Thank you I guess...I just want to understand what's on his mind, to be honest..." I'm going to the opposite field.
"Why get involved in my life, when there are so many girls out there in school?" I make the first move that is quickly received by Amanda.
"Is it because you're a hot as hell? Come on, girl, who's the guy who doesn't want you?" I roll my eyes.
"You're very funny. Now, tell me. How are you?" I feel sadness in Amanda's eyes.
"It's all the same." I won't answer her for a while. Amanda smiles.
"Seriously Bee. I'm fine, promise." I frown my eyes. She laughs.
"For reeeeeeal"
"Do you promise?"
"I promise."
"After this one it's your turn to talk, okay?"
"ALRIGHT girl" I take the ball in the air and with force I give the next move.
