January 1st.
Two weeks off from school and now returning,  I stressed over my breakfast, hoping that I could have a little longer to relax. Whether or not I was quiet or popular, going back to school was still a shitty time of the year.
"Y/N. don't stress about it. You've been at this high school for nearly three years now and you still get nervous on every first day back"  My mum reassured me whilst serving me a steaming plate of bacon and eggs.
"Yeah well, you've seen how it's been going for me. I don't talk and barely anyone knows me. Except for Hange. But she hangs out with her friends and I only see her when walking to school." Hange and I had been friends since I was little, but over time we had drifted from being bound to the hip to just seeing each other on the walks to and fro from school.
"Well maybe that can change this semester. Reach out, branch out , get involved and hopefully we will see things improve."
"Yeah hopefully."
"Maybe try fit in with Hange's group? I'm sure she would love for you to hang around her."
"I mean, I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask. But still- what if they don't like me?" I replied whilst taking a large sip of orange juice.
"How could they not?"
My phone lit up with a notification from Hange.
"I guess. Anyways I'm off. Hange's outside."
I grabbed my bag and any snacks I would need for the day and headed out the door, wishing my mum a good day on the way out.
Hange greeted  me with a huge ear-to-ear grin, her brown eyes flashed beneath her glasses.
She had way too much energy for a Monday morning, but I low-key envied her for it as my body was dragging with the five hours of sleep I got last night.
"So, how are you feeling? Are you nervous for school? How was your holidays? Are you excited for this semester?"
It was like playing 21 questions with Hange sometimes.
"Slow down, slow down. I'm fine, a little nervous but that's predictable. My holidays were fun, what about yours?"
"Oh GREAT! Me, Levi, Erwin and Moblit all went on a huge road trip and we had the best time!"
"Oh yeah that reminds me, is it okay if I sit with you guys at lunch? Usually I'm alone and i'm okay with that but- I don't know, I guess I'm in the mood for a change."
"YES definitely!" Hange screeched whilst jumping about, drawing attention from the other pupils walking to school. "The group are going to love you! Erwin's crazy smart, almost like our leader as he always has a solution for everything so you two are bound to get along already; Moblit's just so sweet and kind and SO funny and I think you will really like him. And Levi.." Hange stopped
"Yeah...? What about Levi?"
"Well he can be a little bit cold around new people. And when I say a little I mean a lot. But I'm sure once he meets you he'll soften up quick! He really is a good person, just a bit intolerable of newcomers."
"Oh okay well as long as he doesn't have a problem with me sitting with you, then I don't have a problem with any harshness he gives me."
"AWESOME! I can't wait for you to meet them!" Hange seemed almost drunk with joy at the plan.
I was confident about this, finally happy that I would be able to socialise at school without being criticised by others and their stereotypes. However Hange's words about Levi scared me a little- I already had a lack of people skills and now I had to interfere with someone who hated people he didn't have long term relations with? This was going to be difficult, but I made a plan to put in the effort to make Levi get over his usual standards of people and tolerate me. I was sure of it.
The walk to school continued until I found myself at the large front doors of your shitty high school, and the pre term fears came back, despite being banished by Hange. I waved goodbye to Hange whilst heading to my locker, which just had to be at the furthest point of the high school, aching to put some books in there whilst my bag dragged my shoulder down. A blond haired, 6"0 boy with glasses walked behind me; opening his own locker.
Zeke fucking Jaeger.
"Hey I haven't seen you around before- are you new?" Zeke questioned me, despite the fact I had shared schools with him since freshman year.
Is this guy being for real?
"No I'm not I'm just trying to come in a bit more and get my attendance up." I lied, knowing that I rarely ever missed school.
"Oh okay well, I'll see you around I guess." He said, with a wink.
I smiled back, unsure how to feel about our interaction. Zeke was popular, crazy popular, but he wasn't your stereotypical, jock bully, he was actually sweet to people he took an interest in, and if he didn't, he didn't pay attention to you. However he was a major flirt, but I envied his social abilities. The entire Jaeger family was popular, the parents owning a large branch of healthcare and, from what my old friends had told me, Eren was crazy popular in his high school. Zeke and his group wasn't my ideal friendship group, but they would be okay to talk to and hopefully make my last few years here a bit less hellish.

The first few periods felt breezy, and by the time I realised what was next, it was lunch.
Across from the lunch station was Hange, screeching my name over and over again.
I really did appreciate her effort and excitement for me however now the entire cafeteria was staring at Hange.I couldn't help but laugh at her actions. Her friend group had their own separated table- with one spot open left for me.
"Y/N!!!! OVER HERE!!! I SAVED YOU A SPOT!!!" Hange yelled excitedly, until a dark haired boy yanked her by the shirt and pulled her down.
"Hey guys, I'm Y/N! I'm happy to meet you all!" I introduced myself, trying to be as friendly as possible.
"Oh we know who you are, Hange talks about you all the time! I'm glad I get to meet you finally." The blonde boy spoke up.
"I'm Erwin."
"Hey, Y/N, I'm Moblit!"
"Levi."  He sat across from where I was, staring me down with cold, grey eyes.
This was going to be more difficult than expected- but does he have to stare so creepily?
Moblit was an incredibly perky boy, always seeming happy yet worried all the time. He had auburn brown hair that grew long, but tame. He seemed like the type of boy that knew when to have fun and when it was an appropriate time to freak out.
Erwin was TALL. Taller than Zeke and he managed to dwarf me with our earlier interaction. He was also neatly kept and always seemed prepared, and with the way he spoke about academics, Hange was right to say he was incredibly smart. He wasn't the type of smart that was boring and tiring however, more so the one that always had an interesting topic to educate you on or discuss.
Levi however, Levi was different. He didn't talk much, but when he did it was very sarcastic in his own way. Funny though, I would have to admit, and beautiful. All the boys were attractive in their own way, but there was an aura about Levi that drew me in and made me wish he was more talkative as I longed to learn more- and if he would talk I would listen to him for hours. He had raven coloured hair that was fixed in an undercut, and a sharp, diamond shaped face. Levi's eyes however, they were long and slim, and seemed lifeless yet so interesting at the same time. He also had long scars stretching over his face, which weren't too noticeable at first glance but after admiring him I picked up on them. Levi didn't speak much to me at all, which was expected. There was just something about him that made me so, so interested with him and who he really was.
