Sugar.
It's such a simple word.
An ingredient that people use to make cakes, and so many other things.
Yet it means so much more to me.
It brings back so many memories.
Some good, some bad, some right in the middle.
Some that I might never be able to relive again.
Some that I'm hoping to remake.
Some that I'm on my way to see if they were real in the first place.
It's been five years since Gillian took me to Indiana with her.
I'm twenty-two now. I was only seventeen when she took me away.
We live in Fort Wayne. That's not where I am now though, not at all.
You see I'm about halfway through a three and a half hour drive to see my ex-boyfriend and our friends in a concert.
I wasn't supposed to leave the house though, Gillian wouldn't have let me. So I had to run away. So here I am now.
Anyways, they aren't playing a date in Indiana, so I've decided to drive all the way to Cleveland, Ohio to see them at Wolstein Center on the twenty-sixth.
It was around an hour later when I pulled into the parking lot for a hotel. I grabbed my backpack and walked in, got a key and went up to my room.
I threw my bag on the bed along with my jacket. I took my shoes off and walked into the bathroom, locking the door behind me.
I was about to get undressed to get in the shower when I caught a glance of myself in the mirror.
I look like a cat that got dragged to hell and back.
My hair is red and pulled into a low ponytail with curtain bangs. I had tried to cover my eyebags with makeup earlier, but it didn't work.
The worst part of seeing my mess of a person in the reflection was having to see the scars too.
I could see the lines from my recent cuts on my wrists, and the bruises on my shoulders from Gillian.
I tried to ignore it all and continued to get undressed before getting in the shower.
Around fifteen minutes later, I stepped out after wrapping myself in a towel and opened the door.
I then got changed and decided to stay up for a little and watch TV.
I could hear a person in the room next to me singing. It was a song that I remembered very well.
I recognised the voice right away.
Rory Smith.
Fucking hell. That means the rest of the group is in there.
I put on my headphones to try to ignore it and shuffled my playlist. I then wrapped myself in a blanket and fell asleep.

I can't believe I even decided to text Rory. I couldn't believe she even replied so quickly.
😕Y/N: Hey, Rory. I know I haven't talked to you in a while. Do you even have my number still? Doesn't matter. I heard you singing last night, my hotel room is next to yours. I was wondering if you'd want to meet up and get lunch?
🐌Rory: Ofc I still have ur number, silly! Also crazy that ur room is next to ours. But anyways where do u wanna go for lunch? Anywhere is fine w/ me!
😕Y/N: Is the Eat N' Park down the road okay with you? We could meet at 12 o'clock
🐌Rory: I'll see you there! See ya, bye!! 👋
😕Y/N: See you soon!!
I thought that she'd be pissed at me for not texting her in forever, but she's acting the same as she did five years ago.
Anywho, I went in the bathroom and finished up my makeup before grabbing my messenger bag, putting everything I need in there and walking out of the hotel to my car.
It was a short drive down there so I happened to be a little early, but that was alright.
I was stood outside of the front doors, smoking a cigarette when Rory came running up to me. She still dressed like she used to but now her hair is like a neon blue.
"I thought I'd never see you again! Wow, this is amazing, I missed you so much." She said with a smile, hugging me quickly.
"I missed you too. I thought I'd never see you again." I replied after putting out my cigarette as we walked inside.
We were sat at a table in the corner and we both ordered our drinks.
"So, are you still a vamp?" She asked jokingly as she took a sip of her Sprite.
"I don't think we'll ever be able to stop being vamps." I said with a giggle.
Even though it's been years since we saw each other, we still get along and talk just like we did then.
We both ordered and continued to make small talk as we ate.
"Are you coming to the show tomorrow? I could get you back stage for free."
"Actually I already got a pass, so obviously, yes I am coming."
"Oh that's awesome! I can't wait!" She squealed with a grin.
"I can't wait either." I said as I finished up my iced tea.
"There's so much the boys all want to tell you. God it'll be great." She said as she checked her watch. "Oh, I have to be going soon. Here, let me pay, and then I have to go. It's been great seeing you again! I'll see you tomorrow!" She said before walking up to the register at the front to pay.
I stacked up some of the dishes and cups, so the workers cleaning had an easier time, before grabbing my bag and leaving.
I drove back to the hotel and quickly ran up to my room. I threw my bag on my bed, then went into the bathroom and locked the door, even though I have this room to myself.
I hunched over the toilet and emptied the contents of my stomach into it.
I can't believe I keep doing this.
This is all Gillian's fault.
I just need to make it to tomorrow.
