Such a beautiful light we never knew

Eleanor lay beside Buck who had an arm draped over her lower belly and snored lightly. Eleanor was wide awake, she had been hours. How could she possibly sleep with everything she and Buck were facing? She ran a gentle hand over her small bump. Buck stirred slightly beside her. Ever since they had found out she was pregnant this was how Buck slept, always with a hand on her growing belly. Even in his sleep, he was protective of them.

Eleanor smiled down at him, a peaceful look plastered on his face. She didn't want to leave this bed. She wanted to stay there, with Buck and their baby, she didn't want to face what awaited her in the real world. She was content with this little bubble.

"What're you thinking about?" Buck whispered in his raspy morning voice.

Eleanor stared at the wall for a moment before turning to him. She ran a hand through his messy hair. "Everything.." Buck rubbed her belly gently as he stared up at her. "What if he tries?"

"Over my dead body will he ever lay a hand on this baby." Eleanor sighed, she knew the lengths Buck would go for her and their baby. "I love you."

Eleanor half smiled, "I love you."

"We should probably get dressed. You have an appointment and we have to sign the last papers for the house. After that, it's officially ours." Buck smiled.

"I like the sound of that. But you know what that means?" Buck looked up at her, waiting for her answer. "Shopping."

Buck buried his face in the pillow, "Uggh." Eleanor playfully swatted his arm. "Can't you take Maddie along? Or even Eddie?"

"I suppose I could. Eddie and I haven't really hung out lately and I do miss him. But don't you want a say in the decor of your own home?"

"He misses you too. And have you seen this place? It has like two colors."

Eleanor laughed, "fair point."

"I know whatever you decide will be perfect." Buck leaned up on his elbow and pressed his lips to Eleanor's. "I have faith in your taste. I mean, you did pick me."

Eleanor shook her head, "Wow. Can your head get any bigger?" The pair shared a laugh. Eleanor pushed back the blanket and pulled herself out of bed. Buck followed close behind, he was super clingy today. With everything going on, he was just waiting for Eleanor to break..

Buck came up behind Eleanor and wrapped his arms around her waist. He nuzzled his face in the crook of her neck and placed light kisses against her skin. "Wanna shower together and save some time and water?"

"You are something today," Eleanor giggled as his breath tickled her neck.

"I didn't hear a no." Buck smiled widely as he picked her up and carried her to the bathroom.

Buck stopped at the desk and checked in for Eleanor's appointment while she went to find seats. Buck joined her shortly after, plopping down in the seat next to her. He took her hand in his, rubbing his thumb gently across her skin.

"So much for saving time," Eleanor mumbled, a small smile on her face. Buck looked up from his phone for a moment.

"I didn't hear any complaining and we still made it on time." Buck smiled back at her.

"Barely."

"Eleanor," their normal nurse called from the doorway. "How are we today?" She smiled at the pair as they followed her through the door.

"Good, we're good. How're you? Busy day? It looks pretty packed out there."

"Yes, unusually busy. Must be a full moon or something. But I'd rather be busy." Eleanor sat on the table, settling in as Emma turned on the machine and got settled herself. Buck stood at Eleanor's side, squeezing her hand in excitement. "Do we wanna know the gender?"

"We can do that already?" Buck's smile grew.

Emma nodded, "Yes, you're far enough along now." Buck and Eleanor shared a look before nodding at Emma. Eleanor lifted her shirt slightly. Emma squeezed some cold gel onto her belly before swiping the wand over it.

Buck leaned over slightly to get a better look. Eleanor smiled up at him as she watched his smile grow and his eyes twinkle. This baby had him wrapped around its little finger already. Watching Buck go into dad mode was the most amazing thing Eleanor had ever seen.

Emma moved the wand around a little more. "There she is."

"She?" Buck and Eleanor asked in unison.

"Yep, it's a girl. Congratulations mom and dad."

"It's a girl," Buck smiled at Eleanor. "That means little bows and tea parties."

Eleanor smiled, "Yes, lots and lots of tea parties."

"And don't forget the princess dress up," Emma added. She printed out the pictures and handed them to Eleanor.

Buck pushed the cart through the aisles as Eleanor read the list, grabbing things off the shelves and setting them in the cart. Eleanor crossed off the last item on the list before shoving it back in her purse.

"Anything else?"

"One more thing," Buck's grin took up his whole face. Eleanor trailed behind as Buck pushed the cart through the store. A few moments later they arrived in the baby section. "I know you've been avoiding this section because of superstitions and old wives tales which I respect but I think it's time."

Eleanor smiled at him, "I agree." Buck's smile grew as he browsed the different shades of pink. Eleanor watched in awe as Buck picked up outfit after outfit and showed her. Eleanor browsed slightly.

After about twenty minutes of looking, Buck came back over to the cart with a look and accomplishment. He held up an entire outfit to show Eleanor. There was a onesie that read 'Daddy's Little Princess', a puffy tulle skirt, a bow, and even little booties.

"I couldn't resist," Buck smiled as he watched Eleanor tear up slightly at the items in his hands.

"She definitely has you wrapped around her little finger already."

"I guess so," Buck and Eleanor shared a smile.

"It's adorable. I love it, Buck." Buck leaned down, pressing a quick kiss to Eleanor's lips before putting everything in the cart.
