Would've given all I had

Would've loved you like no other

Eleanor was at the nurses' station, filling out some paperwork when she heard the electricity crackle. One by one the lights went out down every hall. Gasps of shock and small children's scared screams could be heard in the utter silence. The generators kicked on and the beep of machines filled the too-silent hospital.

"It's going to be a long day.." Eleanor sighed. She grabbed out the small flashlight she kept in her scrubs and used it to finish her paperwork. Eleanor's phone rang in her pocket. She pulled it out, it was Buck. "Hey," she wedged the phone between her ear and shoulder as she spoke.

"Hey, how's it going there?"

"Crazy already. What happened with the power?" Eleanor put all the papers in a file folder and shoved them into a bin under the desk.

"Crazy lady stole a truck, hit a power line, ya know. The usual." Buck's laugh flowed through the speaker.

"Of course. Never a dull moment."

"Never." Buck sighed. "Anyway, I just wanted to check in quickly. It's gonna be a long day so I'll check in again when I can."

"It's gonna be crazy here too. Be careful out there today. I love you and if I don't talk to you then I'll see you at home."

"I love you and you be careful too. Hopefully the power's back by then and I can grab food."

"Mmm.. don't talk about food right now."

Buck laughed again. "I love you, I'll see you at home." The sound of sirens was cut off as he hung up.

"Long day, huh?" Eleanor asked as she put some files away. Emily was sitting in a chair, leaning back slightly with her eyes closed.

"The longest. And I still have four hours left." Emily groaned.

"Oh my, I am so sorry." Eleanor gave her a sympathetic smile.

"It's all good. Not my first blackout, the first one was actually way worse."

"The night is young."

"That's true. Anyway, you go home Mama. Go put your feet up, you earned it today."

"How did you..?" Eleanor's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"Girl, you are practically glowing. We can all tell." Emily smiled. "Bye El, we'll see you tomorrow." Emily smiled as she practically pushed her out the door.

"Okay, okay." Eleanor slung her bag over her shoulder and waved to her coworker. "Have a good night, Em."

She was glad to finally be going home. It was a shorter shift than her usual but her feet were killing her. If it was already like this now she couldn't imagine how it'd be in a couple of months.

Eleanor opened the car door and threw her bag into the passenger seat before hopping in herself. She signed as she finally sat down for the first time in hours. She couldn't wait to get home, kick her shoes off, and just relax. She checked her phone for any calls or texts from Buck before she started driving.

It took a little longer than usual to get home since the power was still out so there were no traffic lights. Finally, she parked, grabbed her bag, and headed to the apartment. As she walked down the hallway, nearing the door, she got a weird feeling. She shook it off figuring she was just a little spooked with no power. She unlocked the door, dropped her bag and keys on the table, and headed to the living room. Eleanor plopped down on the couch and kicked her feet up. She sighed in relief.

She stayed there for a few minutes before getting up. Eleanor lit some candles, spreading them between the living room and kitchen. It didn't put out much light but it was better than nothing at all. She grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and her phone from her bag before heading back to the living room.

She would kill for some tacos and cuddles while she watched her favorite show. Maybe she'd convince Buck to get a dog so that she wasn't alone. He pretty much agreed to everything she wanted anyway so it wouldn't take much convincing.

There was a creaking noise upstairs, Eleanor shot up on the couch and looked around the dark apartment. It was so dark that even if someone was lurking she'd never see them. She couldn't shake the feeling anymore. It was more than just a little spook now, it was full-blown fear. She grabbed her phone and tried to call Buck but there was no answer. She figured she wouldn't get one.

Eleanor headed to the kitchen and rummaged through the drawers in search of a bigger flashlight than her phone. After the fifth drawer, she found one. She definitely needed to reorganize this kitchen. She flicked the switch and the room lit up mostly. She scanned the room with the flashlight. At first, she didn't see anything, she swiped the beam over the room once more. Eleanor screamed and dropped the flashlight as a figure appeared at the bottom of the stairs.

"Miss me dear?" There was a sinister smile on Michael's face. Eleanor froze. The flashlight lay on the ground, pointing at Michael. "I said, did you miss me?" Michael pulled out a pocket knife and flicked it open.

Eleanor tried to back up but she didn't get far. Her back was pressed against the counter. She felt around on the counter and in her pocket for her phone. Finally, she found it on the counter but before she could grab it Michael rushed toward her. He grabbed the phone from her hand and threw it against the wall. It fell to the floor and shattered.

"No calling your little boyfriend for help this time." He was so close Eleanor could feel his breath on her face. She whimpered and tried to move away from him but it was no good, he was too strong. He grabbed her chin, tilting her face back toward his own. "I missed this."

Michael pushed her to the ground. Pain radiated down her arm as she landed right on her shoulder. She gasped in pain, already knowing her shoulder was dislocated. If Michael had his way that wouldn't be the only injury. Eleanor would handle any injury he inflicted, her only concern was her unborn baby.

"Why did you leave me El?" Michael squatted down next to her.

"Go to hell," she spat.

"You first," Michael dragged the pocket knife down her leg. It wasn't enough to cut her scrubs but she could feel the sting on her skin. "I see you decided to finish school. How nice for you." He pulled at her scrubs as she tried to wiggle away.

"Get away from me," she kicked her feet but he caught them, holding her still.

"Nice picture on the fridge," he used the knife to point at the ultrasound photos. "I thought you couldn't have kids. Isn't that what you told me when I wanted one?" He gently ran the knife over her stomach.

"No. Leave her alone.." Eleanor cried.

"Her? How cute." Michael applied some pressure as he ran the knife over her stomach again. She tried to push away from him again. He grabbed a fistful of her hair and yanked her to the side. She felt another sting as his hand slid over her face again and again.

"Go.. to.. hell.." Eleanor managed to spit out before her vision went blurry. She felt a sharp pain in her belly before everything went black..
