"Hey can I get some ice really quick?" I ask Elaine, sweat dripping down the side of my face.
"Oh yeah sure," she steps out of my way, wiping her forehead with the back of her hand as she continues making a latte for a customer.
"Thanks," I say, shoveling a scoop of ice into a cup.
Work was crazy when I arrived (which made me feel even more guilty about being late) and it had not calmed down since. Three hours into the shift, Elaine and I are suffering profusely. We hadn't had time to hang out and chat, it had just been go, go, go since we started.
"Here you go, have a nice day," I paste my customer service smile on my face as I pass a taro milk tea to a woman across the counter. I glare at her back as she left the store. The bitch didn't even tip me.
"Hey can you help me with this?" Elaine calls desperately from the register.
I trudge over to her. "Yeah?"
"I think the receipt machine is out of paper," she worries. "I have no clue how to replace it."
"No problem," I get to work on the receipt machine as she takes another person's order.
"Oh hey, Geto!"
I blink and look across the counter at Gojo's best friend. His hair is half-up today and he's looking gloriously androgynous. Unable to help myself, I glance around the store for Gojo, but don't see him anywhere.
"What's up, Y/n," he says, drawing out my name, a knowing smirk on his lips.
All of a sudden, I wonder how much Gojo tells Geto.
"Hey," I let out a breath, wiping my hands on my pants. "What brings you in?"
"Uhhh," he looks around the store like he's questioning if he's in the right place. "Bubble tea?"
I roll my eyes. "Smartass."
"What would you like today, Geto?" Elaine asks, ever-so-sweetly. I shoot her a covert glance, suddenly wondering if she thinks he's hot. I mean, he is hot objectively, but could he be her type?
My mind spirals into fantasies of me dating Gojo and Elaine dating Geto...that would be so fun.
Well, except...Gojo's my fake fiancé. We're not in a real relationship and our status isn't simply "dating".
I shake my head to clear the traitorous thoughts away.
"I'll just have a..." He squints at the menu, diligently reading through the overwhelming number of options. "I'll do a small lychee yakult. But could I have less sugar?"
"You must be dieting," I nod.
"Shut up," he laughs. "I just don't have a sweet tooth."
"You wouldn't come to a bubble tea shop if you didn't have a sweet tooth..." I mutter.
"Let's upgrade that to a large," Elaine chimes in.
"You two are trying to run me dry," he shakes his head, but he doesn't fight it as he pulls out his card to pay.
"You're literally a pharmacist, buddy," I say. "You've got plenty of money to blow."
Shit...
I glance at Elaine, realizing that pharmacists might be a touchy subject with her because of her parents' whole situation. I make a mental not to get an update on that matter later.
Thankfully, she seems unfazed, keeping up her usual bubbly happiness.
"That's right, and you better tip us really, really well," she says seriously.
