Shawn and (y/n) have been best friends for as long each can remember. It's Fourth of July and they're at their local beach watching the fireworks. This is a tradition of theirs, they do it every year.

They're both madly in love with each other but neither have the guts to confront the other. It's both of their greatest fantasy to share a kiss under the booming fireworks.

"(y/n)," Shawn whispers as he moves closer to her, snaking his arm around her waist. (y/n) can't help but blush.

"Yes, Shawn."

"There's something I've been wanting to tell you for a while now.." Shawn trails off. (y/n)'s heart drops to her stomach as her palms begin the to sweat. "Um.. well first off, I want you to know that when you're around I feel nothing but joy. And at first I just had a little middle school crush on you, but as the years went on it developed into so much more," Shawn rubs the back of his neck, a nervous habit of his.

"Basically, (y/n), I want you to be mine. I want to be able to cuddle with you, but as a couple and not as best friends. I want to be able to hug you as my girlfriend, not my best friend. Most of all I want to be able to kiss you and show you how much you really mean to me."

At this point (y/n)'s blushing madly. She already knows she's cherry red. "Shawn, I-I don't know what to say," (y/n)'s at a loss for words. Shawn just said what she has kept bottled up for years. "You just said what I've been trying to build up the guts to say for years."

They stare at each other as the fireworks come to an end. In a matter of seconds (y/n) and Shawn begin to lean in. Everything seems to be in slow motion. The moment their lips touch it's like magic. They share their first kiss as the last firework booms, lighting up the night.

The sparks in the air were no comparison to the sparks they felt when the two of them were together.
