first and foremost happy 18th to shawn!
i remember when he was a 15 year old who had barely gone through puberty on vine and now he's a man selling out shows left and right. i love him with all my heart and im incredibly proud of how far he's come and i wish nothing but the best for him!--
Shawn's POV
I walked into work this morning expecting yells and hugs and even a few punches, today's my birthday for crying out loud! But, I got nothing out of the ordinary. All my friends and my girlfriend are acting like it's a normal Monday, hurting my feelings to say the least and I can't even tell if they're joking or not. Even my campers wished me a happy birthday!
It's now lunch and I go into the kitchen to get my campers' lunch boxes. I walk in to see (y/n) at the microwave heating up some food. I take this as my opportunity to speak to her, "(y/n), hey what's up? Do you have any clue as to what today is?" I question, with my hands behind my back as I rock on my heels. I hate to feel the need to drop hints or remind people that it's my birthday, but it seems as no one remembers.
She faces me and looks around before quickly pecking my lips. Our supervisor knows we're a couple and hates excessive affection. "It's Monday! A start to a brand new week, which also happens to be the last week of this hot ass camp. Can't wait to get this damn paycheck," she chuckles. She really has no clue.
I shake my head in disappointment, "Yeah, but-" I'm cut off by the microwave going off.
She takes the food out and grabs a fork. "I'll see you later. Our supervisor has been up my ass all day! If I step an inch away from one of the campers he's scolding me on watching them! I swear next summer I'm taking co, I can't deal with being head counselor," she says as she leaves the kitchen.
"Alright then," I say, even though she's already out of the kitchen and can't hear me. I let out a frustrated sigh, my own girlfriend forgot my birthday and it's affecting me more than it should.
I grab the lunch boxes and walk out to the bleachers where my campers sit. I give everyone their lunches and eat with them.

Its fifth period, when all my friends, including (y/n), and I take our breaks.
I spot (y/n) on my way to the counselor's lounge. "(Y/n)!" I call out, only to have her walk faster. I jog and catch up to her, grabbing her arm before she could open the door. "You didn't even say happy birthday to me! You forgot my birthday! How do you think I feel? I turned eighteen! That's a milestone, you know? God forbid I forget your birthday and you'll have my head in a damn bear trap! Maybe you'll remember my twenty first," I scoff.
(Y/n) stares at me before speaking, "Just because I didn't say happy birthday," she pauses. She turns around and reaches for the doorknob, turning it and pushing the door slightly open. "Doesn't mean I forgot."
She pushed the door all the way open and I see that the lounge is completely dark. She sends a small smile my way as she flips the switch and the lights turn on. I see all my friends and other counselors jump up and scream, "Surprise! Happy Birthday!"
A huge smile spreads across my face and suddenly I feel bad for my outburst. I take in the decorations around the room, there's a huge banner across the front of the room that reads "HAPPY 18TH SHAWN!!", the tables have blue table cloths, there's a big table underneath the banner with a cake and chocolate chip muffins and everyone in the room has a party hat on.
I turn around to see (y/n) with a party hat on and one in her hands. She reaches up and I bend down a little so she can put it on my head. "Happy Eighteenth, baby," she says with a smile.
"Did you plan this?" I ask as I hug her.
"Yes, with the help of some friends, of course," she points behind me and I face all my friends.
"Thank you, guys!" I say as I pull them into a group hug. I sling my arm around (y/n), "I really thought you guys forgot," I admit.
"I know," (y/n) chuckles. "Do you know how hard it was to not send you a birthday paragraph this morning?"
"You still could've," I point out.
"Well, no, because it wouldn't have the same effect," she laughs. "It was kind of my goal to have you think we forgot to then be surprised. I wanted to jump out like everyone else, but you caught me before I could."
"Speaking of which, I'm sorry about my outburst. I was a dick out there," I say.
"Don't worry about it, bub. I would've acted the same way if I thought you forgot my birthday," she responds.
"Let's cut the cake!" I hear Brian yell. He lights the candles and I stand behind the cake. Everyone sings happy birthday to me and we eat cake. Throughout this little party my friends hand me cards and gift bags and I honestly couldn't be more thankful for my group of friends.
