The night after Bella came home from the Rez. Edward called Emmett, Jasper, and Clayton to track a vampire that was in Charlie's house. He wanted Christina to come because of her tracking abilities but Jasper and Clayton both refused. They were not going to let a pregnant Christina track down an unknown vampire.
"Someone's been in Bella's house. A vampire." Edward said to the family as they stood in the living room. Bella was next to Alice and Rosalie was sitting next to Christina on the couch.
"Who was it? Someone we know?" Carlisle asks
"This is a stranger. I didn't recognize the scent." Edward says
"A nomad passing through." Esme suggested.
"It couldn't be." Christina says
"A passerby wouldn't have left Bella's father alive." Rosalie adds
Jasper, Emmett, and Clayton walk in. "The scent disappeared about five miles south of Bella's house." Jasper informs. He walks over to Christina and Rosalie stands up next to Emmett. Jasper takes Rosalie's seat.
"Victoria?" Bella asks
"I would have seen her decide." Alice says to Bella before turning to Christina, "Have you seen anything?"
"No." Christina says shaking her head
"It has to be the Volturi." Edward says
"I don't think it's the Volturi either. I've been watching Aro's decisions too." Alice says
"So we'll keep looking." Clayton says
"We'll also take shifts guarding Bella out of the house." Carlisle adds
"No she's right. You can't protect me, watch my dad, and search for the intruder." Bella says
"Don't forget Victoria." Christina adds
"And keep yourselves fed." Bella adds.
"Not to mention one of us is out of the action." Emmett adds pointing his head towards Christina.
"I'd rather not have to keep leaving Chris alone too." Jasper adds.
"I'm not leaving you here defenseless." Edward says to Bella.
"Well I'm not going to let you starve." Bella counters. "And I wouldn't be unprotected I--I have.." Bella says trailing off
"What?"
"She has the wolves. They'll protect her too." Christina comments.
"No. No way." Edward says shaking his head.
"Edward, it's the only way that we will be able to protect Bella and Charlie, feed, and search for the intruder and Victoria. We need help. We won't be able to do it alone." Carlisle says
"Fine." Edward relents.
