Shadow
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After my leg magically healed (cliche?) after about a week of staying at this boy's house (still cliche?), I went to hunt with Tony. I realized his name was Tony after I got to know him. We became best pals. And he taught me to hunt in wolf form, along with patrolling and fighting. He pretty much trained me in everything. One day we went scavenging for herbs the pack doctor could use.
"Keep an eye out for the purple berries. Don't forget the golden and yellow flowers! Not with the red spots those are poisonous..." The doc rambled on. "Okay we got it..." Tony had growled slightly, which the doc dipped her head shyly and shut up to.
"Come on I think I see a bush of berries over there!" I yelped giddily in wolf form, blazing in fire. But when Tony passed me and brushed against my fur, I went silvery again. It was so weird...
"I'm gonna beat ya past the hill!" He barked to me. I growled and sprinted past him, flying on top of the hill. I sat and panted, waiting for him to catch up. He finally padded up.
"You're too fast..." He growled demonically. Which was the third time this week he became slightly demonic. "Dang, calm yoself. Hush child!" I yipped in response. "We're only runni-" Dangit. I smelled blood. I could tell Tony smelled it too because his eyes darkened into their bluish color again. He started to go in front of me slightly overprotectively, but I pushed past him again and wade through the river that was in front of us to reach a hunter camp. He taught me about hunters too, how they're so vicious to the werewolf population. What we saw in front of the camp was so terrible...
(Pic up top) A pure white she wolf, writhing in agony, was being burned and ripped apart by chains. Her jaws snapped apart and she bled out to death. We watched from a safe distance sadly. We heard whimpering, and looked around. Tony suddenly nudged me and pointed at a small mass of fur, beautiful white fur. Four pups wriggled. Hunters near them laughed and threw them into the river. They left and went back to camp.
After they were out of sight we both jumped in and picked up the pups. They were born wolf. Many families, (random clicheness of this book ergh) when they had children they would either be born as a wolf pup and shift into human at around age 8 or so, or be born as human and be regular werewolves. It is different for every pup. We took the pups back to the pack house, forgetting the berries.
When we got back to the pack house, the pups were cleaned, and we gave them names. "Storm, Kade.... Um, I don't know..." I whispered, pointing to a white one with black paws, then a white one with black ears. "The pure white one should be Glacier. She's a girl too. And the silver one..." Tony murmured in my ear.
"Alaska." We said at the same time. We looked at each other then looked away quickly, both of us blushing fiercely.
"Somebody's got a crush!" Sammy laughed at us. Sammy was Tony's seven year old sister. I didn't realize she was in the room while we were naming the pups.
"Sammy get out!" Tony yelled, then growled playfully. "You're gonna get tickled!" He smirked, holding out his hands. Sammy screeched and ran. "Mummy the tickle monster is here!" I've also learned that Sammy's mom-and Tony's mom- is Luna. So their dad is Alpha too. Lot to take in.
Luna walked into the room and reached out to pet one of the new pups, gasping and cooing about how Glacier was so cute. Suddenly something in me snapped. I leaped and landed in front of Luna, shifting into a flaming wolf again, in midair before she could touch the pup. I growled fiercely at her. 'Pup!' Fiery boomed in my mind. The Luna looked at me for a moment, then backed away slowly. I kept a challenging glare straight at her. Tony looked at me, looking slightly afraid. The pups whimpered as my flames danced in front of their eyes. I kept growling at the Luna.
"Mummy- a wolf's on fire!!! Mummy!" Sammy had re-entered the room. Ergh she's too cute I can't show violence in front of her. Well I shouldn't. Br I couldn't control my wolf right now. She was extremely possessive. Tony seemed to mouth the words, 'Distract, I get pups' and Fiery must've seen that because next thing I knew Fiery pinned Tony against the wall. Flames licked at his clothes but they were smaller. Fiery growled louder, holding an intense gaze at Tony, before releasing him, picking up the basket the puppies were in, and padding into the guest room, closing the door with my paws.
