That next evening, darkness fell heavy over the hotel room once more. Bluey and Bingo did their best to care for their weakening mother, but dread grew in their tiny hearts.
As Chilli smiled gently at her beloved daughters, she began to sing in a soft, lilting tone:
"My sweet pups, do not weep for me,
When this long night is done.
Dry your eyes and brave smiles keep,
When morning light has come.I'll watch o'er you from up above,
As the angels sing my soul to rest.
Have faith that in my love you'll move,
Toward joy with heaven's blessed light in your chest.Live life with laughter each and every day,
Dance in the sun, let your happiness shine.
Keep your daddy and I close though far away,
Our spirits live on in the love in your eyes."As Chilli's voice faded, a stunned silence fell over the room. Bluey and Bingo could only stare in disbelief at their mother's still form. This couldn't be real.
But then Bingo let out an agonized howl that pierced the night. Bluey joined in, a cry of pure anguish and loss that came from the very depths of their souls. Their pups' cries seemed to echo Chilli's parting song back from the ether.
Somewhere distantly, Bluey was aware of hotel staff rushing in, calling for help. But she could see nothing through her tears. All that remained was the emptiness in her shattered heart as she clung to Bingo, both quaking with sobs.
Hours blurred by in a numbed haze. When dawn light fell upon their tear-stained fur at last, it revealed only more loneliness. But then, drifting on the breeze, Bluey heard it - the faintest reply to their howls on the wind. A murmur of comfort too subtle for words, as if from far across the veil.
She turned to see Bingo gazing up with reddened eyes, seeming to feel it too. And in that moment, though dark the future loomed, they found solace clinging to each other. For as long as they had their sisterly bond of love, some small spark of hope remained that one day, the light might lead them home.
