As the train pulled into the station at Maraucourt, Bluey and Bingo clutched each other nervously, exhausted from grief. But the sight of Mort Cattle waiting on the platform lifted their spirits.
Mort was surprised to see his daughter's girls in person for the first time. A tender song rose from his heart:
"Little ones, what trials you've borne,
Come, let Grandpere keep you safe from harm.
This home of mine now yours to share,
All the love you need, I vow, is here."He hugged them close, their tears washing away the pain of parting with their parents. From that moment, Mort vowed to be the family they so needed.
As autumn fell upon the countryside, Mort thought new clothes might cheer the sisters in this season of rebirth. He took them to his chic boutique in the village square.
There, among gorgeous fabrics and designs, Bluey found soft blue wool that called to her. She turned to Bingo with a smile, and their song wafted through the shop:
"This color bright like a summer sky
In it I feel joy start to fly
May we have dresses of this cheerful hue?
To bring out smiles that are feeling new?"Mort's heart warmed at their bonding. "But of course, mes cheries! Only the best for my granddaughters."
As Mort's seamstresses got to work, the pups explored the shop, gently fingering soft silks and cozy wools in myriad hues.
Bingo's eye caught on yellow gauze dotted with daisies. "Oh Bluey, wouldn't this be darling for spring?"
Bluey smiled. "It suits your sweet spirit, sis. I'll bet the bees would swarm you!"
Soon their dresses were ready - pale blue cotton embroidered with clouds for Bluey, a daisy-sprigged sundress for Bingo. The girls twirled before the mirror, their reflections shining with new hope.
Mort wiped a tear, overjoyed to see smiles return to their faces. "You both glow brighter than the sun! Now what say we try those dresses at the harvest festival, hmm?"
As the sisters cheered, a melody rose within Bluey. Taking Bingo's paw, she sang of rebirth:
"Though rain may fall in grief's dark time
Warmer sun will shine before
Each tear we shed will nourish earth
Where joy again may take rebirth"And all agreed - in Maraucourt, surrounded by family and community, Bluey and Bingo's tender young hearts had found fertile soil to heal at last.
