Nitya couldn't sleep the entire night. She had been on edge ever since Aniket mentioned the court hearing. Her mind raced with worst-case scenarios, and she found herself pacing the floor, unable to find any solace.
By the next day, it was almost 12:30 PM, and Aniket still hadn't called or returned. Her anxiety had only grown, and she had barely touched her breakfast. She paced the living room, her nerves frayed.
"Madam, please rest for a while, please have something , or Sir will be angry," said the maid, trying to soothe her.
"I'll eat once Aniket returns," she replied, her voice tense.
"But Madam..."
Just then, Nitya's phone rang. She picked it up immediately, her hands shaking. "Aniket... How are you? Are you okay? Did anything happen? What happened in court?" she bombarded him with questions, her voice frantic.
"I'm fine... but first, tell me, did you eat anything?" he asked, his voice calm and reassuring.
"Aniket, please tell me... my heart is sinking," she pleaded, her voice breaking.
"And you haven't eaten anything... I knew you would react like this... That's why I was going to come back without telling you yesterday, but then you would have been even more worried. Where did Aniket go...?" he said, his tone teasing yet filled with affection.
"Aniket... tell me what happened in court... That man, did he do anything to you? Please tell me..." she implored, desperation clear in her voice.
"First, open the front door," he instructed. She hurried to the door and opened it to find him standing there, a bouquet of roses in his hands.
"Congratulations, Mrs. Nitya Aniket Sharma... The court ruled in your husband's favor," he said, handing her the bouquet with a triumphant smile.
"Really?" she asked, her eyes filling with tears of relief.
"Yes... and the court has provided protection for us and your family as well, as long as the case is ongoing. So now you can be at ease... there will be police with us to protect us 24/7," he explained.
Overwhelmed with relief, she finally smiled and threw her arms around him, hugging him tightly. He held her close, his own tension melting away as he felt her relax in his embrace. The bouquet fell to the floor, forgotten, as they stood there, wrapped up in each other, grateful for this moment of peace amidst the chaos.
Nitya was at the city hospital, well before her due date. Aniket had made sure of that, prioritizing her safety and the well-being of their unborn triplets.
"Aniket, you brought me here too early... I tell you, it's an unnecessary expense," she said, her irritation clear.
"No way! I can't take any risks with you," he replied, handing her a glass of water.
"But Aniket... spending thousands daily... what's the point of all this?" she protested, frowning.
"Enough... that's it. Just go to sleep quietly," he commanded gently, taking the glass back from her and helping her lie down. Nitya closed her eyes and, after a while, drifted off to sleep. Aniket approached her quietly and kissed her forehead before lying down on the attendant's bed nearby.
A couple of hours later, Nitya felt a sudden pain and woke up. Panic gripped her, and she called out urgently. "Aniket! Aniket!" she cried.
Aniket sprang up, seeing the distress on her face.
"Aniket, my water broke!" she said in a feeble, strained voice.
Aniket's nerves got the better of him, and he fumbled in his panic. "Okay! Don't worry... Do you need water? Should I get water? Yes..."
