"Yes, I like what I see," I said, smirking as Yori pulled me closer. His smile was magnetic, and I couldn't help but stare. Not only did he have a beautiful face, but his body was also a masterpiece, especially when wet.
I put my hand on his chiseled chest to maintain some distance between us. His body was cold to the touch, and a drop of water from his skin fell on my hand, sending a shiver through me. "Why are you taking a cold bath in the middle of the night during winter?" I asked, puzzled.
Yori's crucifixes were wet too. Why hadn't he taken them off? And why was he wearing so many? "Yori, I never knew you were so religious," I remarked.
"Oh, I'm the opposite of a religious person. These are simply gifts from my master. I can't possibly take off what my master has given me," he replied, gesturing to the bracelets. "This one is fairly new."
His explanation didn't make much sense, considering Ame's claim of not being religious anymore. I pondered the contradiction silently.
"Forget about me. Why are you here? Were you looking for me?" he asked, taking my hand off his chest and pulling me even closer. I regretted not wearing a sweater as I felt the chill of the night air. His proximity was overwhelming.
"Yes, I wanted to see you. It'll be our last time seeing each other anyway," I said, my thoughts drifting to the letter I received this morning. Why did he give me that letter? How did he manage to draw me to him like a magnet, making me forget all the dangerous things he did? I knew Yori was perilous, yet I couldn't avoid him. He always found ways to trap me. I needed to leave, but his allure was hard to resist.
"It's getting late. I think I should leave," I said, trying to step back.
He smiled but didn't let go. "Okay, you can leave if you want," he said, his grip still firm. "After you leave, I'll be pretty lonely, and you won't be the same when you come back."
What the hell did he mean by that? Before I could ask, he released me and disappeared into the hallway. After a while, he returned with a book in his hand, which he handed to me without a word. It had a rare leather cover.
"It's a sequel to 'A Letter to Anneliese'," he said quietly, then left. I hadn't known that novel had a sequel. I stared at the book, feeling the weight of Yori's inconsistency and the strangeness of everyone around me.
Yori left without giving me a chance to ask any questions or even thank him for the book. I sighed and walked out to the balcony, feeling the cold air against my skin. I hadn't realized that my thin white shirt was wet, making it a bit sheer. It must have been from Yori. It was too cold for me to stay there any longer, so I headed back to my room.
As I approached the entrance to the female sleeping quarters, I saw Luka climbing up the stairs. He looked shaken and restless.
"Luka, aren't you going to sleep?" I asked, concerned.
He looked up at me, his eyes widening in surprise. He took a step back, his breathing becoming faster.
"Hey, Luka, what's wrong?" I asked again, but he continued to step back, almost tripping on the stairs. I reached out and caught him just in time to prevent him from falling.
The sudden contact caused us to tumble backward into an awkward position, his face landing on my chest.
"Being this close to two men in one night must be my lucky night," I thought sarcastically, but at least I had prevented Luka from falling.
As he slowly lifted his face from my chest, my shirt looked even more sheer in the light.
"I'm sorry... I'm sorry," he repeated, but he didn't seem embarrassed. Instead, he looked terrified.
