Unplug means plugged in, but it might be cool to reverse roles and look at what needs plugging. From a psychological standing the bottom line is quite visible: TAKE A BREAK. Disconnect! But take a break from what? The breaking or the taking?
Let's twist things a little.
All for One, and One for all.
Look at this maxim. Did you know that each of us have our own worlds which we create out of what we do all the time? It is society's best selling pitch: You First, isn't it? So you and I spend our daily lives seeking the Me and Mine in life, inside an office building, behind a desk, maybe immersed brain and brain fluids within a computer's digital knot of wires or should I say, the metaverse? But it's all too much for one soul to carry, isn't it? You and I know the dreaded phrases very well. Don't even try to act clueless. Burn out. Exhausted. Bogged down. Breaking down. Broken. Rehab. Stressed out. You know the words. What? Nerds? Nerds don't have wires criss crossing and touching in sparks, smoking somewhere in there, clouding their vision? Sure they do, we all get too caught up in our big little worlds and the only way to get instant relief is to step out of it... to remember somebody else who is not all about you. Get away from you. Quickly. Just for five minutes. Breathe. Feel the dizzying relief.
It's not all about You.
When it's most chaotic, most lawless, most senseless, most unproductive, totally upside down, not going anywhere, stuck in a place that's not at all recognizable, not middle, beginning or end, but totally off tangent, you're lost and you don't even know how to come back, you keep hitting your head against a brick wall, you feel like you can't swim in an ocean, with the mighty waves rolling in your direction, and you are tired, fed up, angry, about to burst into one final puff of wasted energy, you desperately need to Unplug...!
Some people go dancing. Some people go to the gym. Some people take a walk, a drive in a cool ride round the city blocks, but I like to enter other people's lives, fiction or fact, watch, read, learn, and help. Call it empathy or call it entertainment but it's simple to see that for a brief moment in time someone else is on the line, not you. Someone else is being saved, not you. Someone else is doing the saving not you. Someone else is able to stay alive, because you took a break from you....
Strike a balance. The world you create sucks you in, if you even allow it, with absolute intensity, but you are not perfect, you are only human, and what a unique, amazing person you are, not just plugged in but off duty! Society is constantly sucking you in but remember that there is also a world engine within you that needs to escape, and build a place for someone else to live in.
We're created to create, not implode. It's so exciting that we do this just by being. Go make a sales girl laugh her heart out. Go dive off a cliff above a deep sea cove by a rushing waterfall. Go visit your mother, massage away the rheumatic pains in her ankle, bake a cake for your cook for a change, spend a whole day in an orphanage, pack your bag and travel to Antarctica to talk to those mysterious aurora lights, do something that's fun, free, caring, compassionate, that's totally unrelated to work or stress or whatever it is you are usually plugged in all the time twenty four seven.
Humanity is a collective, it might surprise you that to achieve complete well being we need others to be getting along too! We need everyone to be someone, just like in the maxim, all for one and one for all, reverse it and it still works just fine! Everyone... needs someone to be every other one! Which way does the wind blow for you? Do you need to step out of you or step into you? Strike a balance. It only takes a few precious stabilizing moments.
