Chapter 23

Georgia

We were just pulling into the parking lot at the hospital when we heard the loud explosion. Beckett was the first to jump out of the car along with Jim, and the two hurried to the front entrance of the hospital where people were beginning to flood out. Ethan and Leo were in the car behind us, and weren't far behind them as Brynn and I put the cars into park and raced to catch up to them.

We can only imagine the damage that might have been caused by this.

"Cole and Mia are up there," Beckett muttered to Ethan. "We have to get up there and help them."

"Hey Ethan! Do you need help?" A kid called from across the lot.

"We've got it. Get to safety!" Ethan called back.

It took a moment for me to place his voice. By the time I realized who the boy was he was already in his car and driving away.

"Damn it!" I cursed watching the car drive away. "That was Todd!"

"What!" Brynn spun around and watched with me. "He did this?"

"I don't know. But I won't put it past him." I mutter, texting my boy to get him into action. This needs to end now.

"I've got my first responder gear in the truck. So does Leo. We can go," Ethan saw Leo was already pulling the gear out and heading our way. "I don't have a third set. You'll have to stay here, Beck. You can't go up there. We don't know what  happened or what the situation is. It could have been a bomb, it could have been poisonous gas, we don't know.  Leo and I have the gear, we will go up, check it out and let you know if it's safe. For now, it looks like there's plenty of people down here that need our help too. Georgia?"

"I'm on it. We'll get an emergency station set up in the parking lot to get triage started, we can ship out anyone who needs emergency care to St. Joe's."  Will was already making the calls. He knew these people better than any of them. This was his home. This was where he was born and raised.

I watched the man I had already decided to replace me as Mayor get to work and knew my choice was the right one. Paige was right there by his side, directing people on where to start setting up and getting things organized. They were on top of it without a single word from her. I wasn't needed for this, my emergency response team was already in action. But my family was still inside the hospital and I was not going to leave until I knew they were out safe and sound.

Getting into their gear, Leo and Ethan suited up ready for anything inside. It could be chemical, it could be just a bomb but either way, the air wouldn't be easy to breathe. Oxygen tanks were hauled onto their backs, masks were slid onto their faces, yellow safety suits were put on and the two headed for the front door.

"You two be careful in there," I ordered them. I don't want to lose any of my boys. They are mine, by blood or not. "Come out in one piece and bring the others out to us."

"We will, Georgia. We'll find them," Ethan assures me, and gives me a hug.

Going to his bride, he kisses Brynn and nodding to his brother the two disappear through the doors as Brynn comes to me and wraps her arms around my waist. We wait and watch, and I'm thankful that Quinn stayed behind at the Inn with the children. She doesn't need to watch Leo go through the danger again because of this trouble with Lindsey. Not that I know that this is because of her. I don't. But something tells me this wasn't an accident.

Cole

I can hear the electrical cords sizzling and zapping around us. There's emergency lights flashing and a siren going off somewhere in the building. Mia is laying on the floor next to me and we have the bed flipped over on top of us. I think that's what saved us. When we heard the ticking sound, I pulled her out of the bed and we flipped the bed over just in time for the explosion to happen. We barely beat it.
