Epilogue
Mia
I'm nervous. I shouldn't be. It's not like I haven't spent any time with Cole. It's not like he hasn't spent every available minute at my place when he can. But it's a big night.
The dinner house opens tonight. Brynn and Paige have to be so proud. The same with the Tuckers and the Bradford's. It's another new business for Moss Bluff, another big step forward for the business owners in town and a big feather in Georgia's cap as mayor.
So many people had a hand in getting this one open. Between the construction crew, the movers, the restaurant staff, everyone of them have worked hours for tonight to be perfect.
Standing in front of my mirror, I take one last look at my reflection. I've never been to a red carpet event before. I hope I'm dressed right. Georgia picked out the dress for me. And Brynn helped me pick out my jewelry.
The lime green dress isn't my usual color or style but the girls said it was perfect for my coloring. The thin straps crisscross down my back and the neckline drapes modestly over my breasts. It's A line reaches just above my knees and shows off the silver shoes that Georgia insisted I wear.
Brynn got me a silver necklace with rhinestone and emerald teardrops. It's over the top and elegant in a way I've never worn. I love it. But I don't know where I'll ever wear it again.
I've spiked my short black hair so it's a little more punk than I wear but I figured tonight was different. I don't wear a lot of makeup but tried a little bit extra tonight. I feel different. Special.
Ethan called me a sassy pixie when he stopped in to wish Brynn good luck before he headed over to the restaurant to help setup. Leo whistled at me and Beckett gave me a kiss on the cheek. I've never had this much attention from so many men.
"Are you sure you don't want us to wait for Cole with you? We can stay with you a little longer?" Aubrey offered, the small baby boy wrapped in a silver silky sling around her chest was sound asleep listening to his mama's heartbeat.
"No, I'm sure he'll be here soon," I responded, not really sure if that's the truth or not.
I've been stood up many times in my life. Guys have made dates with me and then forgot about it or just decided not to go. Having a man be late is nothing new for me.
"He's not going to stand you up," Beckett assured me as if reading my mind. "He doesn't want to have his ass kicked tomorrow."
"You're not going to kick his ass!"
With a wink, Aubrey smacked her husband's arm, "I wasn't saying I was going to kick his ass. Aubrey is very protective of her friends."
"Yes, I am. And I know Cole is very much in lo...." The doorbell rang just before Aubrey could finish her sentence. "Saved by the bell."
The two said they would see us at the opening and went to the door. Letting Cole in as they left. I waited a moment longer before coming out to the living room and finding him standing there, a little awestruck in his tuxedo and a bouquet of wildflowers in his hand.
"Wow! You look... wow." Cole murmured as he stepped to me. "Ethan is right, you are a little pixie."
"I'm taking that as a compliment. Are those for me?" I asked, admiring the flowers I knew he bought from my shop this morning.
"Yes. Some wild flowers for my wild faerie. They suit you." He smiled, handing the brightly colored blooms to me.
I was giddy with excitement. Cole was giving me romance. The flowers, the sweet words, the magical night. It was all amazing. I was intoxicated by the entire experience of being swept off my feet for the first time. I wonder if this was normal or just a side effect of all the excitement of the last year.
