CHAPTER ELEVEN;
mr theo sharpe
In the country, Ophelia ran wild in the garden, dancing out during the storms and walking her dog during the sunny days. Before Anthony Bridgerton had come to whisk her away from her only home and show her the walks of proper society, she had never really cared for rules.
As she stepped out of the carriage and onto the streets of Bloomsbury, however, she worried for her livelihood. She trusted Eloise despite spiraling events, but even still, she doubted how her day would turn out.
"Thank you, Mr. Daniels," Eloise said, nodding to Ophelia's footman, whose face was telling Daisy that he did not agree with this little adventure at all. "We shouldn't be long, alright? Come, Daisy," She said, raising her hand out.
Slipping her arm around the other girl's, Ophelia tried to keep all other parts of her body from brushing Eloise's, which was difficult given how close they were walking. "Where are we going?" Daisy asked, eyes darting around the street for signs of danger, or anybody that they knew from London.
"I think I'm too soft to be able to endure scandal," Eloise said knowingly, leading the way through the crowded cobblestone streets.
"I did not say that!" Daisy squealed, "But I do not think you'd be able to recover, that is fact".
"You did not say it," Eloise said, coming to a halt, eyes gazing across the street. "He did".
Following her line of sight, Daisy looked across the street, to a handsome boy, around their age, working hard over at the print shop. "His name is Theo Sharpe. And you are not the first inappropriate person I've fallen in love with, so don't go thinking you're special or anything," She said lightheartedly.
Daisy watched as Eloise's eyes tracked the boy's movement, the curve of her mouth as he unpacked the sheets of paper from the recent delivery. She saw the sparkle in the girl's eye, the same twinkle she had seen in that dark room the night of the Danbury ball. Eloise's words had been right; she may think she was in love with Daisy, but it was fact she had romantic feelings for this boy. If only he were of the right status.
And that's when it struck Ophelia. How to get herself out of this mess, leave Eloise without a broken heart.
He just had to be of the right status.
