Chapter 19 (Determination)

Poonam took the award with tears and a new determination in her eyes. The moment she felt the trophy in her hand, a sob escaped from her mouth and she felt like jumping on her success but suppressing her emotions, she came down from the stage.

She went straight to Kaushal, who was smiling at her even though he was still in disbelief. She wrapped her arms around his torso, ignoring the people around them. Kaushal was bewildered by her actions but still hugged her back.

After some seconds, they broke the hug and Kaushal smiled at her. Kaushal was still shocked but happy for his Gajra, even though in his household Girls aren't allowed to study, still he made his younger sister Study and all his sister-in-laws are also educated but can't work like the men of his household. He didn't know that his Gajra was so good in academics, he was just informed that his wife was a poor student and left her education after 12th.

Poonam wiped her tears and then Radha hugged her from back and said, "Akhir kaar uncle ka sapna aur teri mehnat safal hui"
(Finally, you fulfilled uncle's dream and your hardwork paid off)

Poonam just nodded her head and turned around and hugged Radha back. Everyone congratulated her and she felt like flying in sky. She recalled those days of her exam preparation for board exams, that time her family and Radha used to help her alot.

Flashback starts............

Poonam was playing with her sister when her mother came there and scolded her and made her sit on her study table and placed her books in front of her and told sternly, "PADAHI KAR"
(START YOUR STUDY)

The poor child started her study, being afraid of her mother's wrath. She picked up the book, she hates the most 'Chemistry' and started reading it. Minutes later her interest grew and she started studying with full concentration.

After 4 hours, her father came inside and saw her sleeping on her study table. he sighed and smiled while going towards her and after reaching near her, he patted her head softly and said, "Uth jaa, bacha. khana khale aur thoda aram kr lena"
(Wake up, Child. Eat something and take rest)

Poonam woke up from her slumber and saw her father in front of her and hugged him in excitement, then went with him to angaan to have dinner. Her family smiled at her and they started eating, when suddenly Poonam's mother spoke, "Ji ghar ka rasan khatam hone ko aaya hai"
(Ji, household necessities is about to end)

Poonam's dad looked at her and signalled his son who was done eating, to bring his bag from his room. Poonam's dad washed his hands and took the bag from his son, who has just returned a second ago from room with bag. And he took out some books from his bag and gave it to Poonam, who was done eating a long time ago and was sitting with her mother.

Her dad placed the books on her lap and said, "Ooji, is mahine gujara karlo. Main apni bachi hui tankhwa se Poonam ke liye kitabe le aaya, jo uske pariksha mein madad karenge"
(Ooji,please manage it for this month. I spent my all remaining salary on Poonam's books, which will help her in exams)

Poonam looked at those books with numb eyes but her eyes teared up when her family said that her father did a good job and they can manage for a month including her little siblings, just for her exams.

A sudden urge to fulfill her father's dreams and repay her family's support made her feel to crack this examination with full marks. From that day she started studying day and night, and used to take help from Radha and Suraj for her studies and gave her exams with full concentration and consistency.

On the day of her last exam, she didn't have idea that what she will do next, to fulfill her father dreams but decided to prepare for Neet and took help from Suraj, who was first bewildered but then become so happy and decided to help his sister. he went to city to get some knowledge about this from her doctor friends but when he returned, everything was changed.

Poonam was forced forget her determination to fulfill her father's dream and her father was compelled to forgot all of his dreams and they both were ready to let the destiny destroy their hardwork and dreams.

But today she felt that she did it, she fulfill her dad's first wish and now she was determined again to fulfill his other dreams as well and become a Doctor.

Time skip

Poonam and Kaushal left the school after the ceremony ends. Poonam was hugging him from back while sitting on backseat of bike. Kaushal smiled while asking, "tum itni samajhdaar ho, hume maloom hi nhi tha"
(You are that much intelligent, I didn't know)

"Hum itne bhi samajhdaar nhi hain jii, hum toh bachpan se bs pass hote aaye hai, wo bhi passing marks laake. Par humare boards exams ke smay humare parivaar ki umeed humse judi dekh kr, socha ki es baar baba ka naam jarur roshan karenge. Aur jab hume phle pata chla ko humara 7th sathan h, hum bahut khush huye kyuki aj tak top 50 mein bhi nhi aaye, aur achanak se top 10 mein aagye the. Par aaj toh, hume khud par yakeen nhi ho rha h ki humne t...top kiya h wo biology mein" Poonam said while remembering her hard work and her family's.
(I'm not that intelligent ji. from childhood, I have just scored passing marks. But after seeing my family's hopes with me for my board exams, I thought that this time I'll make my Baba proud. And when I got to know that my name is in Top 10, I was so happy because untill that day, I wasn't even in Top 50 and suddenly in Top 10 made me feel so elated at the same time shocked. But today, I can't believe myself that I have topped in biology examination)

Kaushal smiled and they continued to talk until they reach Mishra mansion. Poonam went inside and met her sister-in-laws there and told them about the whole event except the hug part and they congratulated her.

Renu even told her to think about studying further and talk about this to Kaushal. Poonam thought to give it a try and thanked them for the idea & wishes. Then they started making dinner for family.

Time skip

Poonam went inside her room after finishing all the chores and saw her husband working on some papers while sitting on bed. Kaushal is handling Mishra textile and was MD of the company. He has done his masters in business. Poonam went towards him and sat besides him on bed, making him turn around to her and give her a smile before turning his attention back to the papers.

Poonam asked, "Ji kuch puchna hai, puchu ?"
(Ji I want to ask something, can I?)

Kaushal nodded his head without looking at her, Poonam muttered after taking a deep breath and while stuttering.

"Ji m..ein aage..aage pa.dna chahti hu"
(Ji I w..ant to st.udy further)

Kaushal looked at her in daze, not expecting her to ask this. Silently moved his gaze from her to the papers again and said sternly, "Nahi, humare ghar ki aaurtein shadhi ke baad college nahi jati"
(No, women of our household doesn't go to college after their marriage)
