Yuri paced around the hallway. She had to have been doing it for over two hours at this point. Cyrika had been transferred all over the hospital until they eventually settled her in the children's recovery ward; she had been in and out of surgery twelve hours. It was two in the afternoon and Yuri was debating breaking into the hospital room at this point. However that feeling disappeared as soon as a doctor stepped outside of her room. Yuri rushed over,
“Is she okay?” She frantically asked. The doctor nodded,
“Yes. While it was a rather brutal quirk spurt. She's going to make a full recovery.” The doctor explained. Yuri let out a sigh of relief.

“So, what is her quirk? Or what do you guys have so far?” She altered her question. Quirks were tricky, since Cyrikas had just appeared they would only know the baseline knowledge of it, especially since it was a mutation.
“We arent completely sure yet. All we know for right now is that she will develop wings. That could be it but there could be more. Its hard to say.”  They explained, their expression a strained nervous one. Worried that Yuri would snap at them for not knowing more. Yuri sighed and rubbed the space in between her eyebrows back and fourth.

“Why didnt the mutation appear at birth? Isnt that the case for most of them?” Yuri questioned. She wasnt an expert on stuff like this but she knew base line info. Most of the population did, it was like knowing about birth defects or common human traits.
“Some mutations appear at birth. Usually things thar drastically change appearance, such as a complete body mutation. But Cyrika only has wings. So it looks like her body shoved it off to the side.” He explained.  Yuri nodded,
“Can i see her?” She asked. The doctor nodded, opening the door for her.

Yuri stepped inside, the room was nice. The childrens wing of the hospital always felt less isolating than the regular one. Small animal designs painted across the wall like a jungle with a small toy bin in the corner. A cheap looking TV set near the bed. Yuri walked over to it and felt the screen, it was still warm.

Yuri looked over to Cyrika, she was asleep with a newly pair of wings on her back, bandaged up. The feathers hadnt come in yet so they bandaged them to attempt and soothe the exposed skin while they grew in. Yuri sighed and sat on the chair positioned next to her bed. Yuri wasnt surprised Cyrika was sleeping. While she was usually up early in the day, getting up to who knows what trouble she had slept in today. It was five PM. Obviously she was tired from the surgerys and operations, it was a given she would be exhausted.

Yuri gently took Cyrikas hand, rubbing her palm in a circular motion. She wasnt sure if she was attempting to comfort Cyrika or herself. Maybe a bit of both…

Yuri jumped as she felt her pocket buzz. She rummaged around in her pants for the phone adn quickly picked up, not really checking who was calling in her rush,
“Hello? Yuri Takami speaking.” She quickly answered.
“Yuri? Is everything okay? Mitski and I came over to talk to you but you werent there…” Inko’s unmistakable voice rang out from the other end of the screen.

Yuri paused.
“Oh- you did? Im sorry- uhm…” Yuri stumbled over her words,
“No-no! Its okay me and Mitski were just a bit worried, thats all…” Inko assured her. Yuri paused, sucking in her lips as she debated what to say.
“On the way home from school Cyrika’s quirk started coming in, its a mutation so we had to rush to the hospital.” Yuri explained calmy. Inko gasped, Yuri could vaguely make out the glitched sound from the other end of the phone.
“Oh no! Is she okay? Are you okay?” Inko stuttered. Yuri chuckled, Inko always was a softie…

“Inko calm down, its alright. Cyrika is fine, her mutation came in fine. Shes just resting right now after the surgery.” Yuri calmly explained.
“SURGERY!!?!?!” Ah, right probably shouldve explained that too…
“Maybe me and Izuku should come to visit. Hes been itching to see Cyrika again.  When he came home from school he raved for a solid twenty minutes, asking why you werent there…” Inko softly giggled, making Yuri smile.
“Im sure Cyrika would love a visit, but shes still asleep right now… How about you two come in tomorrow? Im sure she’ll be awake by then.” Yuri suggested.
“Were a bit busy because of some fan meetups Izuku wants to go to… But we should be able to visit next monday!” Inko sighed in relief, gripping onto the phone harder.

“Great! See you then?” Yuri poised. Inko nodded, swiftly realising they werent talking in person and speaking,
“Yeah, il see you monday. Bye Yuri!” Inko’s cheery voice called, her voice getting cut off slightly before her name was fully said, the annoying sound of the hung up call ringing through Yuri’s ears.

Yuri sighed and slowly got up from her chair, looking down at Cyrika with frustration. There was never a day that passed where she had regretted having her. Yuri loved Cyrika more than life itself. But on rare occasions she would let her mind flicker back to her thought process.

Yuri remembered the day she found out about Cyrika like it was yesterday. The image still as clear as crystal in her mind. She was only twenty four, relatively young to have a child. She was still new on the police force and was struggling a lot with getting people to listen to her. Women on the police force were a rarity, only about eleven percent of cops were women. At least thats how it was in japan. And it wasnt hard to see why.

It was incredibly hard to get people to listen or take you seriously. Yuri had seriously debated killing some of her colleagues at points… So Yuri worked hard, she pulled overtime and slept in her office. She could remember her old chief asking her if she was homeless. People started to slowly respect her, but even then it was annoying. The other officers got respect right off the bat. Why did she have to work so hard for it?

The day she met Cyrikas father was an odd one. An old friend invited her to a party, Yuri had gotten fairly wasted but could vaguely remeber what happened. She met a man, he introduced himself as Kaito. And regretfully they ended up hooking up.

Yuri was horrified when she realised she was pregnant. She wasnt ready to be a Mom. So Yuri worked to try to find the man. And she came across dozens of files, fake names and police reports. He was a fugitive from America who had murdered a man and fled to japan, changing his name. Yuri spearheaded the look for him. Eventually being able to capture him and bring him in. It was an amazing day for her. Yuri was a spiteful woman, and she decided to change her last name to Takami, his last name. In a sort of revenge. He wouldnt be remembered in his last name. She would, and she would make sure nobody would remember him. He was shipped back off to detroit shortly after for his trial.

Yuri debated for a long time whether or not to abort Cyrika, and in the end she didnt. She was scared that having a kid would only make her colleagues see her in a more sexist light. But Yuri didnt care anymore, she brought in a murderer, a murderer that all of her colleagues had failed to do. She was better than them. Why should she care? So Yuri decided to have Cyrika. And she wouldnt trade that decision for anything.

Yuri didn't care what happened, as long as she had Cyrika. Everything would be okay. And Yuri would stand by that statement until the day she died

🪶FUN FACT🪶
Yuri, though she seems like an extremely chill and relaxed parent, she's actually very anxious and worried that Cyrika will end up reckless and stuck in a system that doesn't appreciate her. Yuri is just better at hiding her worry.
