MONDAY/JUNE/01
Jay awoke to the shrill ring of his phone, the early morning light just beginning to filter through the curtains of his modest apartment. Groggy, he glanced at the screen and saw an unfamiliar number. Hesitating for a moment, he answered.
"Hello?"
"Good morning, Jay. This is Paul Levesque, or Triple H," came the deep, authoritative voice on the other end. Jay sat up abruptly, his heart racing. "Stephanie and I have some exciting news. We want you on the main roster. The things you've accomplished in NXT are insane. I've never seen anything like it in my life, and it's time for the WWE Universe to see what you're made of."
Jay was momentarily speechless, the weight of the opportunity sinking in. "T-T-Thank you, sir. But are you sure about this?"
Triple H laughed a bit and said, "I've never been so sure in my life, kid."
"Wow. I mean... Thank you, sir, for this opportunity. I won't let you down."
"We know you won't," Stephanie McMahon's voice chimed in. "Welcome to Monday Night Raw. We'll see you at the arena this evening. Get ready to make your mark, Jay."
After ending the call, Jay sat on the edge of his bed, jumped up, and screamed, "YES! LET'S FUCKING GO!"
Later that day
Jay arrived at the arena and walked to the reception desk, where a receptionist greeted him.
"Hello, sir. How can I help you?"
"I was asked to meet Mr. Levesque to discuss my appearance on RAW. Jay Carter is my name."
"Oh yes, I have it right here. You can go right in. Third floor, second door on the right."
"Thank you," Jay said, heading to the elevator. As it reached the third floor, he came to the door, took a deep breath, and said to himself, "Give 'em hell, cowboy."
He knocked, and a voice told him to come in. There they were, Hunter sitting behind a big table with his wife, Stephanie. As he approached the table, they both stood up and shook his hand.
"Pleasure to be here and meet you," Jay said.
"The pleasure is ours," they replied.
They talked for about an hour and a half, discussing his appearance. After everything was settled and signed, they hugged him and said, "Welcome aboard. You don't even know how excited we are to have you and to see you rise even higher."
"Thank you very much. It means the world to me," Jay said.
"So, today's match will be you versus Finn Bálor."
"Finn?" Jay said with excitement. "Wow, that's awesome. I've been a fan for a long time."
"That's good to hear. Now everything is ready, go and prepare for your debut, 'Rockstar,'" Hunter said playfully as they all laughed.
Jay went to his locker room, put his gear on, read the script, pumped himself up, wet his hair a bit, and walked out, feeling pumped.
As he navigated through the backstage area, he saw some of the biggest names in wrestling, superstars he had admired for years. Turning a corner, he almost collided with someone.
"Sorry!" he exclaimed, looking up to see Rhea Ripley, the formidable and charismatic WWE star.
"No worries," she said with a grin, her Australian accent unmistakable. "So, Rockstar is finally here, huh? It was just a question of time. By the way, I'm Demi."
"Yeah, I know, and you can call me Jay or JayC," he replied, trying to keep his cool. They shook hands. "Big fan of your work, Demi."
She blushed and smiled. "Oh, well, thanks. The feeling is mutual. You are amazing," she said, her eyes studying him with curiosity. As they locked eyes for a bit, she added, "I-I-I've heard so much about you." They were still holding hands and looking deep into each other's eyes. "Welcome to the big league, Jay."
They chatted briefly before she had to head off for a match, but the encounter left Jay feeling both exhilarated and nervous. Meeting Rhea was an unexpected highlight of his first day, and he couldn't shake the feeling that their paths would cross again.
As the evening approached, Jay prepared for his debut match, his nerves a mixture of excitement and anxiety. He stood in the gorilla position, waiting for his cue, when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
"Ready to make history?" It was Rhea, her presence a calming yet electrifying influence.
"With you cheering me on? Absolutely," he replied, flashing a determined smile.
"Dont sweat it mate, i know wou will kill it out there," she said, giving him a supportive nod.
He walked a bit and said to himself, "Give 'em hell, cowboy."
Rhea asked, "What was that?"
"Oh, just a thing I do to pump myself up. Yeah, I know it's cringe."
Rhea put her hand on his shoulder again. "You know what? It's really not. It's actually really sweet." They looked at each other and laughed. He waited for a bit until his music hit.
As he stretched a bit, he heard from behind, "Give 'em hell, cowboy!" It was Rhea, smiling at him.
