Unknown POV
Slowly, I drag myself through the torchlit corridor. If someone would see me in my nightgown in the hallway, I will be in real trouble. I wonder why in the name of the gods, I had to get up? Should I be up in the middle of the day? No. I should lie and sleep in my nice, cozy bed. Should I be standing here just scarcely dressed in the cold? No. Actually, I'm already sick enough. So why I am still here? Because I have to. My father behaves even stranger than usual lately and I have this terrible feeling that I must pursue. Puffing I drag myself further along the wall towards the King's study. Sweatdrops form on my forehead and back which slowly make their way down along my spine, looking to cool my heated skin.
I should have just ask him what's wrong with him. The only question is whether he would have given me an honest answer. Probably not. So i do not have another choice than to go on with wobbly legs on. After several minutes, which I found are rather like hours, I manage to reach the goal at last. Father's study, which I normally rarely enter.
I can still remember that when I was much younger, I could just running in and jumping up onto him and me laughing as I thrown myself on his lap. At that time he still liked to laughed a lot with me and cracking jokes. But that's been an eternity ago. Now he almost never pays attention to me and I barely can leave my room anymore.
I feel like a prisoner in my own home. Sighing, I push myself closer and listen to sounds in the hallway. Everything seems to be deserted. I put an ear to the door leaf to be able to listen, but the door is too thick and I can only hear murmurs. What is he always doing in there? Who's he talking to? I gently grab with numb fingers the doorknob, push it slowly so that there are no noises and open the door a crack.
What I see makes my blood run cold. That's not possible! Gods please let me dream! My father is sitting as usual in his black glove, covered with soft red cushions, chair. In his back burns a small fire, which makes a little heat and gives him some light. His shoulder-length gray hair looks unwashed and greasy, his long gray beard unkempt and his pale blue eyes which are adorned with dark blue rings look tired and lifeless.
He has based his bony elbows on his polished dark desk and his hands are folded in front of his mouth thoughtfully. Behind him, wafting an opaque black shadow and caress him gently. One might think he is the shadow of the king, if the fire was burning on the other side of the room or even better! If the shadow would have no eyes burning a hot red! More and more sweat comes out of my skin which no longer comes from the fever.
I would love to scream running back into my room and bury myself under my thick soft bedspread, but I needed to know what is happening here. So I suppress every little noise which wants to break out of my throat and continue to behave as quiet as a mouse. >> We need to attack Grandtor soon. I can not wait much longer! << Hisses the shade with a terrible voice.
Thoughtful the old king looks at the shadows in his glowing red eyes. >> Why do we have to attack an innocent village? The people there have nothing to do with it all. << >> Be quiet you useless creature! If you dont stick to your end of the bargain, so neither will I! I say we destroy Trauheim and if you do not do it .... she dies! << Roars the angry swirling mist. >> You do not dare .... << begins father, but the shadow interrupts him.
>> I do not need to kill her myself! That makes her disease all by itself! Either you help me to destroy the gods and their sweetheart, or your daughter dies of her own accord! Only I can heal her. So think well if you want to listen to your pathetic human conscience, or to me who can give you everything you want. Consider sharply, old man. Tonight I expect a satisfactory answer. <<
