Renée had sat down on her couch after a long while of packing.

It was nearing Thanksgiving and during her break from school, she had made it a habit to go visit her family. They weren't too far from here, just a little over an hour, due to all the traffic.

It took her so long because her family liked to do a lot of activities whenever they had a large gathering. And she knew her grandmother would want her to help.

She had been busy, so she hadn't even noticed that Monique hadn't even called her yet. Well she had texted her, saying she was busy.

She wasn't worried. She was probably working or doing something for her. Monique had done that a couple of times; surprising her even though there was no special occasion.

She wished she would hurry up though. She was leaving tomorrow and wouldn't see her again until Friday.

Ashanti had already left for her family's Thanksgiving. She had told Renée that went all out. They were extra, as she has said.

She must have already made it, since she was calling her now. Her family was up in Georgia, so she had left early in the morning.

"Hey girl, I'm here." Ashanti said as she answered the phone

"You don't sound too happy." Renée said, acknowledging her tone

"Mmh, I know they gon start some mess." Ashanti said

"Mmh yeah. Family could be like sometime. Hopefully mine don't do that." Renée said

"Yeah, they chill most of the time. But the way they wanna spend an extended amount of time together, that's what makes it messy." Ashanti said

"Yeah I hear you. I couldn't do it. Some of my family, I can only tolerate for a small period of time." Renée said

"You leaving tomorrow right?" Ashanti asked

"Yeah at like 4." Renée said

"I know you already packed. Always like to be ahead. So what you finna do? I gotta prepare myself for some of these folks." Ashanti said

"And do. They can't be that bad Ashanti." Renèe said as she chuckled

"They are though." Ashanti said

"Well, I'm not doing nothing right now. Bout to watch TV, maybe call my girl." Renée said, smiling as she mentioned Monique

"Uugh, you guys are so cute. I'm happy for you forreal. Took you too long for my liking though." Ashanti said, rolling her eyes, thinking of Zion

"Yeah, yeah. You're right. And thanks. I'm happy too. Finally." Renée said

"Oh shit, they coming outside. I gotta go. Have a good Thanksgiving best." Ashanti said, blowing kisses in her phone

"Bye Ashanti. Good luck." Renée said, chuckling at her reaction

"Bye." Ashanti said before she hung up

Just as Renée was thinking of her, Monique was already a step ahead of her.
