As You Are

        "You were engaged?"

The river of Seine was as calm as the occurring night. There weren't many stars in the sky and the moon hid half of its body from them, a sight so lonely as the silence that sunk between them. His question remained unanswered and he discerned a little too late the loneliness that crept into it, too.

It wasn't intentional. Never in his mind did he want to unlock her past in the same place that contains so many memories—or maybe, he did. Jimin cleared out, he had done so many times before. But that was when he was engrossed about the cause of her disheartened. When he eventually discovered the cause of it, that it was because of love, because of that man, he stepped back and didn't pry further for she deserves peace despite all.

She got her heart broken and was struggling to heal it back.

But he didn't know that this woman was bound to be married... and failed.

         "How long?"

Jeongyeon's lone stare was on the river but her lips moved in accordance with his second question, "For a while."

Jimin didn't know what to say next. Surprise was an understatement; he was astounded. Not only by the thought of her ill-fated engagement but by the odd similarity of their situation. They were, at different points in their life, engaged to someone. It didn't work unfortunately on her part for reasons unknown he doesn't want to explore now, but he... he is to be married yet; the only barricade to that happening is if he's still willing to give his hand in marriage.

Maybe, they are the same after all.

"He's a jerk." Jimin distastefully stated.

        "Yes. He is."

"He's a fucking moron." He said, watching the river beside her.

        "A million times over."

Jimin looked at her, studied her, exactly as a single tear fell on her cheeks visibly under the moonlight. She should wipe them away, she should leave him here as he brought her to a sorrowful place, Jimin probed himself. Things he expected Jeongyeon should have done any while now but she didn't. And the image burned and shattered his soul cruelly as he cares to admit.
