Darya groaned as the light hit her eyes, burying her face in the pillow as the sound of laughter reached her ears. She peaked out of the pillow just long enough to glare at the woman beside her before throwing her face back down.

"You are not a morning person, are you?" Yara asked, reaching over to run her fingers through the other woman's hair.

Darya just grumbled in response, the feeling of Yara's hand brushing through her hair almost enough to get her back to sleep. Almost... Any hint of sleep soon left the woman as a knock sounded on the door, a guard's voice echoing into the room.

"Lady Darya, the Queen wishes to speak with you."

"Not a fucking lady," Darya mumbled under her breath, slowly climbing out of the bed and beginning to get dressed. "I'll be out in a moment!"

"You're really leaving me?" there was a teasing tone to Yara's voice, but her face conveyed her frustration.

"She's my Queen," the blonde answered, smirking slightly as she threw on a jacket that'd been lying on a nearby chair. "Are you jealous?"

"Of the Dragon Queen that has you at her beck and call? Why would I be?" Yara grumbled, although she couldn't help the odd sense of satisfaction that coursed through her when she noticed the jacket was hers.

Darya just shook her head, leaning down to connect their lips briefly with a smile on her face. Yara chased after her as she pulled back, lips fluttering across her jaw and neck as Darya sighed.

"I need to go," she stated, pulling Yara's face back so she could look her in the eye. "You have nothing to worry about, Yara. Daenerys may be my Queen, but she is also my friend. I owe her my life."

"Fine," the Greyjoy finally relented, releasing her grip on the woman.

~~~
Daenerys was waiting on the balcony when Darya entered, turning to greet her friend with a smile.
"I hear you had quite a bit of... fun last night," the Queen teased, Darya just rolling her eyes at the woman.
"What? Are you getting sad that we didn't bring Daario along with us?" she teased right back, letting out a laugh as Daenerys tilted her head in contemplation. "It's not too late, you know. Just one letter from you and I bet he'd race across the Narrow Sea."
"And then who would be left to safeguard the Free Cities?"
"You could always send Missandei, the people love her," Darya suggested as she came to stand beside the Targaryen, her expression suddenly turning serious. "And you know she's never been one for fighting. This war... I worry what it will do to her."
A heavy silence descended upon them, only broken when Daenerys let out an anxious sigh.
"I worry too," the silver haired woman admitted, taking a deep breath as she stared out at the waters beyond Dragonstone. "Not only of what this war will do to her, but also... What it may do to me. I worry about what I may become in order to win this fight. I worry who I may be forced to loose."
"Listen to me," Darya stated, turning toward her friend with a determined expression on her face. "You won't loose me. No matter what you might do, no matter what you may become, I will be by your side. I owe you my life, but more than that you are my dearest friend."
"And you are mine," Daenerys agreed, smiling at the woman as she reached for her hands. "Which is why I've sent you to go with Yara Greyjoy. I saw the way you looked at each other, it was as if I was witnessing a tale of true love happen right before my eyes."
"I don't know about love, Dae-"
"Don't do that. Don't push your feelings down," the Queen argued, her grip tightening on the other woman's hands. "You deserve love, just as much as you convinced me I deserve it."
Darya shook her head, sighing as a smile threatened to crack across the surface of her face.
"How dare you use my own words against me," the blonde commented, releasing the other woman's hands in order to cross her arms over her chest.
"I'm the Queen, I can do whatever I want," Daenerys laughed, pushing her friend toward the door. "Now go back to that Greyjoy woman before she sails off the island without you."
Darya chuckled as she headed for the door, halfway through it before the Queen got her attention once more.
"And thank you, I think I will be sending that letter after all."
The woman just nodded, bending down in an exaggerated bow before finally leaving the room. A weight felt as it it had been lifted off her chest, not only would Daario now be there in her absence but Missandei would also be far from the fighting. It was a relief to know her friends would be well protected.
Hope filled her chest as she thought of what their lives may be like after the war was won, the happiness that they could all perhaps share...
