Vegas' POV

I looked at my left palm. It used to have a scar, but now only a faint mark remains. I pressed down on that spot, thinking of the person who once tried to stop the bleeding for me.

The person who now lives where he chose to be, happy with the one he loves.

I'm glad that, at least, I helped him one last time. I don't care that helping him brought me to this point.

Where you are, there must be someone taking care of you, Pete.

Because after today, I might not be able to look after you anymore.

Then I decided to meet with my father and Macau for the meeting at the main family's house. The big meeting that no one else knows what it's about, but I do.

I rode in the same car as Macau, listening to him talk about various things. School, his friends. I wanted to spend as much time with him as possible.

"If you have the chance to study abroad, you should go," I said with a smile. Macau was the last thing I worried about, but if he could leave here, I'd feel much better.

"Will you go with me, bro? No, I guess you can't."

"You know that I can't. But you can do it ...for me."

"We should go together, away from these bullshits."

"Yeah. You're right."

"Why do you seem so strange today? Is something wrong?"

"I'm just tired of all this, too." Tired and enough of it.

I might seem selfish, but I've planned everything for Macau. If something happens to me, I won't let him suffer as I did. If pa wants someone to take over the business in my place, he'll have to wait for Pim's beloved child to be born.

He'll get his wish, finally.

I followed my father into the large conference room where Uncle Korn sat as the chairman. I didn't bother looking at any of my relatives but scanned the room for one person.

My Pete, standing there.

I stopped walking for a moment, looking at him in a way that made me want to drop everything and take him back with me to live just the two of us again.

He looked at me before glancing toward the seat where I should go and sit.

I couldn't read his expression at all, but I followed the direction his eyes indicated.

He looked good, really good, so good that it hurt.

I was the one who let him go, along with my heart.

I sat silently, staring at the wine glass on the table.

I let Kinn recount my exploits, accompanied by numerous pieces of evidence, most of which I had provided him. I could feel everyone's eyes alternating between looking at me, including those of my father and Macau.

"What do you have to say for yourself?" Pae's voice asked after all the evidence was laid out in front of us.

In the end, I had to protect the family, even if it meant betraying my father.
