Even after waking up with what felt like hours ago this caveman still wouldn't put me down. I don't know how long we have been walking for, but it has felt like days and my legs were starting to cramp from the lack of movement. With my head still on his shoulder, I can see the river flowing so smoothly that all you can hear is the water hitting the rocks that are protruding out of the river and the occasional fallen branch getting pushed into the riverbank.
After what felt like walking for a lifetime, we finally stop, and he finally sets me down slowly on feet. Turning around from him I can a field filled with wildflowers in front of me and at least 50 shifters and other creatures setting up camp for the night and starting to prepare dinner. Really everyone is shifting into their animal form and finding a comfortable spot to lay down since it still gets pretty cold at night, and you don't want to start a fire because it will attract unwanted attention which can lead to bloodbath.
After the sex god walked by me nudging my arm to follow him, I start at a slower pace taking in my surroundings. Now I have two thoughts going through my head, what is a mate and who is Jessica? Taking a quick glance behind me I can see Jonathan is far enough way to give me space but still close enough to grab me if I try to run. Not that I was going to run anyways.
"Oh Johnny" I mind linked him in a sing song voice with a smirk on my face kind of looking like a crazy person.
"Yes, my lady" he replied laughing, acting like he knows what I am going to say.
"What's a mate" I said. Hearing him start to choke on the water he drank.
Taking another glance at him I can see he is already staring at me with wide eyes, creeping me out. So, I do the mature thing and give him a creeped-out face and turn back around trying to see where this sex god ran off to.
"Are you serious" he said as if I am dumb.
"No, I am just asking for the hell of it" Winter replied for us snarky.
" A soulmate" He started mind linking me back smiling at no one in particular looking into the forest. "A soulmate is someone you love with more than just your heart; they're someone you can't imagine living without. They are the person you wake up to every day and the one you can't function without. You share a bond filled with unconditional love and acceptance, ensuring that no matter what happens, you will always stand by their side. They inspire you to improve and constantly challenge you to be the best version of yourself."
"How do you know if someone is your their then?" I asked in a quiet voice. Knowing I already know the answer to my question.
Turning back around to face Johnny, I see that he is already walking towards me but is looking past me smiling at someone else. So, I follow his eyesight and see him staring at Lucifer with what I think is respect.
"Is Lucifer your mate" I ask, hoping the answer is no. Cause if he was, I am going to feel really bad for all my dirty thoughts that I have had of him for the today.
"WHAT NO" He yelled out loud this time, gaining everyone's attention to us. Hearing a low growl that brings shivers to my body I turn back around to the source, Lucifer. Making eye contact with him I can hear everyone else start to go back to what they were doing.
"You know when someone is your mate by touch, it feels like every time you touch you get these tingles that go throughout your body and have butterflies in your stomach the feeling is so addicting that you never want to stop touching them in some kind of way. But don't worry Lucifer isn't my mate, my mate is back home waiting for me to come back home to her." He said with a smile on his face while he starts walking away back to where he was.
Still making eye contact with Lucifer he holds out his hand, making the come here motion. And before my brain even thinks about it my body is already in motion walking towards him making sure I don't step on anything that would cause to much sound like fallen branches and the snow that has already frozen over making it extra crunchy under your feet.
Standing in front of him, I slowly reach my hand out to grab his. Feeling the tingling sensation that Johnny just described to me my eyes go wide, just staring at our hands. Hearing him let out a low chuckle I quickly look up into his blue eyes, realizing he has been talking to me this entire time and I've been ignoring him.
"It's time to shift, we have a long day ahead of us tomorrow." He said in that deep velvet voice that could make me do anything he asked.
Giving him a quick nod, I immediately shift into my wolf. Being one of the lucky few I don't have to worry about my clothes shredding when shifting back and forth. Hearing him take a step back I notice that he also just shifts without a care. Walking closer to him, Winter tries to fight me for control and starts rubbing her face on his chest which makes his wolf use his head and press us even closer into his fur.
Winning full control over Winter, I take a step back and start looking at my surroundings to see who is nearby and possible exit routes if something does happen and we need to run. Feeling Luicfers snout nudge my side I turn and see him start walking over to a giant pine tree and start to lay day for the night, of course following him because who doesn't like a good cuddle once in a while and plus, he is very warm. Laying down in a ball next to his giant wolf I feel him wrap his body around mine, even though I slept this day away I started to feel very tired suddenly and with that everything yet again went black for the second time today.
