SCARLETT

Roman and I hadn't spoken properly in days. He was throwing himself into work, waking up at the crack of dawn and returning after midnight every night, claiming that he and Brandon were working on the issue regarding Nyx and the other packs.

I wanted to join him. To listen in and gather as much information about Nyx as I possibly could, but I could sense the ache in Roman's eyes. He wasn't the same when he looked at me. He was distant, and whenever I spoke to him, it was as if he was there, but also wasn't.

I didn't know why.

I had tried my best to push out joy onto him at the gym, but it seemed like I had done it wrong. Had I forced another emotion on him instead by mistake? I had been careful. I never made errors like that.

The effect of my powers were also only short term. Roman hadn't been himself for days, and I was beginning to panic that I had broken him by trying to mess with his mind.

I made my way into the library, settling down at one of the desks, glaring at the computer in front of me. It was locked, and I still wasn't able to access the internet since I didn't have a login. I needed to question Roman on how I was supposed to go about it, but this didn't feel like the right time to ask.

"Oh, hey, Scarlett." I turned at the sound of Wyatt's voice, and he and Darrel stood before me with arms full of books. I hadn't seen them much since they found me that fateful day in the forest. It was crazy to think how quickly my life had changed.

I arched an eyebrow. "Hey, you guys really love reading, huh?"

They shook their heads.

"Nope. These are all the books my mate checked out and forgot to bring back," Wyatt explained, nodding towards the desk where the librarian sat tapping away on her computer - no Olive today. "I'm going to have to pay a hell of a fee now." He chuckled. "What are you doing here?"

I really just needed to get out of the house since I was picking my own brain apart at home, convincing myself that Roman was ignoring me because he was in the process of organising a handover for me with Nyx, but I wasn't about to tell them that. "I just wanted to use the computer, but I don't have a login yet."

"Oh," Darrel said, dropping Wyatt's mate's books down on the desk, leaning around me to type his credentials into the computer. "Just use my login for now until yours gets sorted."

I beamed. "Thank you."

Perfect. This way, I could look up all I needed to know about Nyx, and it wouldn't get traced back to me. I was just hoping that there was going to be accessible information about him online that I could take a look at.

I waved at the guys as they headed over to the main desk, and I pulled up the website for the small boutique Erica and I had ordered from, pretending to browse it in case Darrell or Wyatt came back to speak to me. They didn't though, and when I was adamant that they had left, I closed the tab and searched The Enclave Clan.

Werewolves were pretty secretive beings, and we didn't post a whole lot of stuff online, but even if I could get just a tiny sliver of intel, it would be helpful.

Photos of Nyx at social events and meetings popped up, but I couldn't find anything of interest. There were no news reports on him or his clan, and after around ten minutes of snooping, I gave up and logged off, shutting the computer down.

What a waste of time.

Nyx had a reason to be secretive though, and it made sense why there wasn't a whole lot about him online. Werewolves weren't ones for social media since humans could also access the information. We stayed away from them for the most part - with separate cities. I wasn't even sure they knew we existed.
