The next day and the day after were blissful for me. In fact, it was one of the greatest weekends of my life as a kid.
On Saturday, a friend of my mom came to our house with her car and took us out along with her son. She seemed to be very close to my mom, and given my mom's personality, I wasn't surprised.
My mom was really good at making friends, and she still is. I enjoyed myself on Saturday. We went to a place that had a gaming room and a cinema. My mom called it a plaza. While my mom spent time with her friend, I spent time with her son, Isaac.
We played video games for hours and talked about the movies we liked, our favorite games, and school, though we didn't talk about that topic for very long. Funny as it may seem, I didn't tell him about the strange things that had been happening in my class. Instead, I hyped up the school.
We became friends instantly. Later that day, we ate snacks and drank ice cream that my mom's friend had bought. The woman really made our weekend memorable.
Sunday was not like Saturday, but it was still fun. We went to our new Catholic church, St. Peter. The thing that made that day fun was Sunday school. We did a Bible quiz, and I won several times. I also made new friends there, and I enjoyed talking to them. So that's how my blissful weekend came to an end.
The next morning, I got ready for school, ate breakfast, and, as usual, we went to the bus stop. We took different buses to our respective destinations. I arrived at school early that day, wearing my uniform, which was neatly ironed.
I actually felt odd wearing that uniform because of its color, pink, which I despised.
Well, the assembly that day was brief. A lot of my classmates kept staring at me, and I could tell that something was off. I guessed wearing the school uniform got their attention because they were already used to seeing me in mufti. I even forgot to tell you all that my mom complemented how I looked in the uniform that morning.
Now let's go back to what I was saying. As I said, the school uniform got my classmates' attention. They were staring at me in the assembly and in class. Everyone was looking at me like I was an alien or something. It made me feel nervous.
My friends, Amanda and Michael also complemented me on how I looked in the uniform. Even the principal and Mr. John, our class tutor, commented on how nice I looked. Despite the attention, I felt okay. That day was the best I had had since starting the school.
Jessica stopped staring at me, and Rebecca never spoke to me or showed any signs of grudge, although she might still have been holding a grudge against me. She left me to my own devices. There was no sign that she would try anything funny with me.
Some weird stuff still happened in my class that day, but nothing that alarmed, scared, or disgusted me. A boy started dancing crazily in front of the class when he was punished by our Basic Technology teacher, Mr. Mathew.
We called him "Tutor Mathew" then. Obviously, all teachers were called tutor. I just loved referring to some of the teachers in a formal manner while others in an informal manner, since they were all a part of my past. So, back to the story:
The boy kept hitting his desk repeatedly while claiming that he was killing ants that he saw on it. Mr. Mathew didn't care about his explanation and flogged him all over his body in front of the whole class. The boy's dancing seemed awkward, and, as expected, the whole class burst into laughter, with the exception of my seatmates and me.
We all felt a little pity for the boy. That was the first time I saw Mr. Mathew flogging a student. He always seemed like a calm teacher. He didn't appear strict by his appearance, but his behavior proved otherwise.
