Lying flat in my bed, somewhere between 9:00 pm at night, while my gaze was fixed on the ceiling, I couldn't help but ponder deeply about how my fate would turn out the next day.

"Will I succeed in finding a way out, or perhaps will someone come to my rescue, or will I just die like that?" I thought. Although I already had Amanda's assurance, I couldn't evade the fear that sneakily came to my mind. I bet Amanda's assurance wasn't enough to put my mind at ease. She was just a kid like me.

"What can we possibly do to stop adults, not just mere adults but ones who are powered up spiritually? The sad reality is that we are like baby ants in their eyes. Even Michael, our mate, is certainly not an ordinary kid as well. So, what plan can Amanda ever help come up with that will save me from Tutor Beatrice and her accomplices?"

Those thoughts swam in my mind for a long time. The seed of doubts was already implanted. I doubted the success of whatever plan Amanda could come up with to save me. I saw it as something that would be futile. A part of me told me to accept my fate, while the other part of me told me to hold onto hope. After all, when there is life, there is hope. Only a dead man has no hopes.

When I thought about it thoroughly, I discovered that I was already pronouncing my own death before.

"What if I prayed to God?' I thought. "Won't He answer? At least, shouldn't I give it a try?"

I thought about the ideology of death that had grown in me over time. What much would a little boy like me know about death, but yes, I knew a few things, like everybody's life has an expiry date.

The Creator has already dictated that. So, my mind went to a pinnacle that if it's my fate to die the next day, then there is nothing that can be done, but if it's not my fate, then God will definitely come to my rescue.

At that time, I pondered about how people claim they can change their fate. Of course, I saw most of those people on TV. I find it possible that anyone can change their fate, but I believed that can only happen if God allows it, and if He doesn't, there is nothing on earth that person can do to change it. After all, I've read stories and watched movies where a character will try to change their fate that was revealed, and how they end up getting trapped in that same fate during the process of trying to change it. I know you all must have read one or two stories like that, probably Oedipus Rex.

Well, my pondering ended with me deciding to pray. To be honest, I wasn't much of a prayer at that time, nor am I good at praying, but at that time, I prayed fervently, like my life depended on it. Why wouldn't it, when my life was in great danger? But I bet that set me as part of those Christians who only pray when they are in great danger or their situation is so severe.

After praying, though, I made a promise with God that I would become a better Christian once He saved my life. Soon after, I drifted to sleep.

After hours of sleeping, the next day arrived. I acted like it was any other day in front of my mom as I got ready for school. I did think of telling her that my life was in danger, but I didn't give much attention to the thought because I doubted she would believe me. After all, what was the big difference between what I told her before and what I was thinking of telling her at the time?

Well, some minutes later, I arrived at school. I was early. I went straight to my class and saw Amanda and a few other students. Michael was not in class when I arrived. Amanda noticed me almost immediately. She waved for me to come and sit with her, which I would have obviously done even if she hadn't insisted. I walked straight to where Amanda was seated, ignoring the gazes of my classmates who were present. I wondered why they were staring at me, although it wasn't new to me.

Now seated close to Amanda, the first thing I asked her was if Michael had already arrived at school, adding that he wasn't in class. Amanda told me she didn't know if he was in school either. We didn't dwell on that.
