TW!!
The problem with fire is that it can harm you even if you're not the one caught in the flames.
Y/N's POV
Although the way you awoke was rather unusual - hearing loud voices coming from downstairs early in the morning - you wish curiosity hadn't got the best of you.
"...I've told you this already! All she does is come up with problems for you and even so you look fucking hypnotized by her! How can you be so oblivious?! It literally took her giving you half an ounce of attention and it's like I don't exist anymore! Why do you always go for people that could wreck you when I've been here all along?! What does she have that I don't?! We used to be a team, us against the world, remember?!" Was all you've heard until you've decided you've heard enough, though your heart pounding against your ribcage while Jennifer's words circled your brain weren't enough to block out what Rhea said right after.
"There has never been such a thing as us, Jennifer!"
Either way, you run upstairs with the ringing in your ears growing louder. You knew the signs all too well to ignore them, so when you catch yourself frantically walking around the room, you know you're about to spiral into your stupid bad habits all over again.
Overthinking: check
Desire to stop feeling like this (whatever this is, anxiety, fear, something else): check
Urge to distance yourself: check
It is only a matter of time until you derail once again, right? It makes you angry at yourself for still being wired up the same. You forever will be . The voice in your head tells you what you wish you didn't know.
The glimpse of a Polaroid of you and Rhea together on her bedside table makes you stop your agitation. You can't ruin what you have with Rhea without knowing the full story. Not this time.
'If she kept something like this from you, what else is she keeping?'
Despite every single cell in your body begging, aching , for you to do what you've done all your life (to take a few steps back in your trust), you decide to give Rhea a chance instead.
You take a deep breath and go for a steaming-hot shower, focusing on how the water feels against your skin in an attempt to relax a little. A few minutes later, you hear Rhea entering the bathroom. You don't look at her.
"I don't know what you've heard, but I can explain." You just nod and finish showering before finding the wrestler anxiously waiting for you in the bedroom. She's sitting at the end of the bed, hands holding her face and left leg shaking up and down. You put your hand on her leg.
"Babe, look at me." It takes every ounce of strength you have to be the calm one. You're not used to putting out someone else's fires. She doesn't look up. "It's ok, really. I'm not mad" You know it's a lie but it is enough to make her eyes meet yours. It is not ok and you are mad. Not only that, you are also confused (and upset) as to why she would keep something like this from you. The deep frown on her face when she finally stares at you adds guilty to that pile. If it wasn't for your fucked up ways, this probably wouldn't make put her in this state. You pull her in for a hug.
'...when I was in high school I had a boyfriend, but at this one party I met this girl. We got paired for a 10minutes in heaven during truth or dare and things unraveled from there. Also during Mae Young I had a few hook ups too, until I met Kevin. So yeah, that makes me bi I guess. I don't care about labels though, to be honest.' You remember when you talked about it and how she seemed slightly off when mentioning the girl, as if she wanted to hide from you. If only you had paid enough attention back then.
