Rayna broke the kiss, making Azriel groan in protest. She looked up at him with a smile on her face, her hand still tangled in his hair. His hazel sparked with some emotion she couldn't place. Then he smiled and it almost took her breath away. The way his whole face seemed to light up, she could see his dimples. Something warmed in Rayna's chest, she had never seen him so...happy, just pure content.

'You just declared we were friends.' Azriel teased.

Rayna raised a brow, removing her hand from his dark hair.

'Want me to take it back?' She asked, making a move to get up from the sofa, but before she could step away an arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her down.

Rayna's back met the soft cushion. She gasped as a hand wrapped around her throat, keeping her in place as Azriel towered over her. The hold was lose enough so she could break free if she wanted. She didn't really want to though as she stared up at the shadowsinger's eyes filled with lust.

'Don't you dare.' He growled, passion in her voice.

Then he kissed her again. He seemed to put every feeling, every desire, every thought in that kiss.

'What am I to you?' He asked, a bit of fear behind his eyes as they broke the kiss.

Azriel had been forward about how much he wanted her, or at least he thought he had been. With every word, every touch, every shared secret he had wanted her. And yet to him a part of Rayna was still a mystery, he wasn't sure her soul called out to him the same way his called out to her. He needed to hear her saying it, anything.

Rayna paused for a moment, before an almost sad smile made its way onto her face. Her hand gripped the back of his head, bringing their foreheads to rest against each other.

'You are my most selfish desire.'

There was nothing but honesty in her answer. Azriel leaned in, his lips almost touching her pointy ear.

'Then let's be selfish.' His whisper sent shivers down her spine.

She cupped his face with her hands.

'We can be selfish after we go speak to the inner circle, Nesta and Elain.'

Azriel groaned, a displeased look on his face which made Rayna laugh.

As much as Rayna would have prefered to speak to Elain and Nesta in private first she new she could not enter Velaris without the High Lord of the night court demanding to see her.

One their way to what she had learned was called the town house, Azriel had told her that he had communicated with Rhysand through his powers, informing him of their arrival.

Rayna had blinked in surprise, before checking her mental sheilds again, making sure they stayed in place. She wasn't sure about the extend of the demanti powers, but she couldn't take any risks.

She followed the shadowsinger in silence. She didn't mind the lack of small talk, she was rather thankful for it. It gave her time to gather her thoughts and pull herself together.

As they entered the mansion, Rayna's face fell into an easy smile. She brushed an invisible lint from her shirt.

Her steps didn't flatter as they finally entered the dinning room. Before them there was a large table and at the table were seated faces she recognized. Mor and Cassian were almost all over each other from where they sat together while Rhys was at the head of the table, a well rehearsed easy smile on his face.
