his brother, hiro, sat at the kitchen table, tapping his pen against the table. he was ten years old. then, his sisters sakura and emi played with their dolls on the floor nearby. sakura was older at six, while emi was four.
"y/n, what's the difference between perimeter and area?" hiro called out.
"uh," y/n thought out loud, going over to the fridge and looking inside. "perimeter is the... the distance surrounding something." he said, then whispered a curse word underneath his breath when he realized that they were out of milk. "and-and area is the amount of space of something i think. i-i don't know-sakura did you drink all the milk?"
sakura looked up from her doll while emi got up and went over to hiro to see what he was doing. "yeah." she said innocently.
y/n sighed, his shoulders slumping with defeat. emi wasn't going to be thrilled, she loved milk, it was something she had to have with every single meal.
"um, okay, that's fine! just have to go to grocery store." he muttered to himself. he turned back to the stove, reaching to open the lid of the rice cooker. then, there was a sudden commotion erupted behind him.
"don't touch that!" hiro said with his voice raised slightly. he took a couple of papers emi had in his hands and placed them on the other side of him.
emi immediately pouted, out stretching her hand and grabbing onto a pencil. "what is it?"
"none of your business, leave me alone!" hiro said, taking the pencil out of her hand.
y/n could feel his eye start to twitch as his temples throbbed with each passing second.
"hiro, emi," he said with a strained voice, not even bothering to turn around as he stirred the soup again. "please stop fighting."
"but she keeps touching all my stuff even when i told her to stop!"
"ro keeps yelling at me..." emi cried, running around the table over to y/n from behind. but she didn't stop in time and accidentally bumped into y/n's hip, causing him to stumble forward and lose grip on the spoon, having the scalding hot liquid splash onto his arm.
it seared his skin with its blistering heat. "hahh... aha." he winced out, clutching his injured arm to his chest as he fought to regain his composure. "fuck, oh my-damn."
emi gasped and watched as y/n quickly turned off the stove and went over to the sink, putting his arm underneath cool water. "i'm s-sorry," she mumbled, her lower lip trembling as she looked up at him with tear-filled eyes. "i-i didn't mean to-"
"it's fine," y/n grit out, his arm starting to shake. "a-accidents happen, okay?"
hiro stood up quickly and went over to him, placing his hand on his older brothers back. "are you okay? let me go get the first aid kit."
"no." y/n said, moving away from the sink and going over to the cabinets, getting out some bowls. "i need to get dinner finished-ow, and you need to do your homework. sakura, it's done! come eat."
