── ⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──y/n stumbled into his house, collapsing to his knees and draping his upper body on the couch. his chest heaved with sobs, and he buried his face in his hands.
he couldn't believe himself.
did he really think nishinoya wanted to be his friend?
did he really think nishinoya fell in love with him?
it was all fake.
he should've listened to himself.
his chest tightened painfully. his hands shook as he gripped the couch, his knuckles turning white.
how could he be so stupid?
the front door opened.
he heard his mom sigh. she stretched her aching arms, taking off her shoes calmly.
but then she paused. she lifted her head up and looked around.
"y/n?"
she walked forward into the living room.
"are you home? i thought you had plans."
that's when she saw y/n halfway on the couch, his body wracking with sobs.
"y/n. oh, what happened?" she asked, kneeling down beside her son.
he couldn't answer. the words were trapped in his throat, he could only shake his head.
she placed a calming hand on his back. "you can tell me."
y/n lifted up his head, looking at his mom with red eyes and flushed cheeks, tears streaming down his face.
"he... he... lied," he managed to choke out. "it was all... a lie!"
she stared at him with widened and concerned eyes, then wrapped her arms around him, pulling him into a gentle embrace. "it's okay, it's okay. you're safe."
y/n's body trembled. "i trusted him," he said, his voice breaking. "i-i thought... he cared."
"i know, baby, i know," she whispered soothingly, rubbing his back. "it's okay to feel hurt. it's okay to cry. just let it out."
"nishinoya did this for money." he felt his mom's manicured nails go through his hair. "i don't understand. that's all it was? fucking money?"
his mother held him tighter, her heart breaking for her son. "people... they can be very cruel, and sometimes we just don't understand why they do what they do," she said softly. "but that doesn't mean it's your fault. you did nothing wrong."
y/n's hands clenched into fists, his nails digging into his palms. "i trusted him." he mumbled. "that's what i did. i'm so pathetic and so unlovable, mom."
"no, babe," his mother interrupted gently but firmly. "you trusted him because you have a good heart, a heart people would kill for. you want to see the best in everyone. that's not something to be ashamed of."
his sobs began to subside, replaced by quieter, hiccupping breaths.
"i loved him." he admitted in a small, defeated voice. "and... and-"
"it's okay." she whispered, kissing the top of his head. "you'll get through this, you're okay. i'm here."
y/n could only nod weakly.
